If your liquid intelligence were responsible for your performance, explain your previous score.

180 is, of course, an outstanding result. The test, however, is learnable. It requires just a few simple algorithms to perform well. The difference between a 169-170 score and a higher score (as someone who scored a 170 and a 177) is about the incidentals of test-day performance. You should know this; you're the same as I am.

I think the test is learnable, but I don't think this is true:

" The difference between a 169-170 score and a higher score (s someone who scored a 170 and a 177) is about the incidentals of test-day performance."

I took about 15 practices tests, never got below 175 after the diagnostic test, and got a 180 on about half the tests as well as the actual test.

I was too general. For someone already scraping the ceiling of the test when taking it cold, it's probably different. I'm talking about the vast majority of dumbs, like myself.

To be clear, 170 is my "cold" score. I flipped through the games the day before. I don't know what to make of a trained 169 supplanted by a trained 180, other than to marvel at just how learnable the test is.

I don't care that the LSAT is not adequately g-loaded. I think the skills needed to succeed on the LSAT are not bad indicators of some of the testable skills needed to thrive in law school. If someone can learn those skills, great. They can probably learn what they need to be a lawyer.

I don't think that it's that unusual, because the LSAT is so tightly scaled. Let's say you get a weird game that you have trouble with in the first section, and then it fucks with your confidence for the rest of the test - you can easily go from the near perfect range to missing 11/12.

you think ED at NYU because it's safe enough, and in your opinion it's a better school than, say, chicago, or do you think ED at NYU is an even safer bet than chicago?

obviously, by pure numbers, columbia is the most competitive and probably not a good place for him to ED to.

My GPA was low (sub 3.0). My softs were okay.

I agree with you because YH really helps. S, I mean, I don't know why people lump S in with YH, TBH. I think the division is more like:

Y >>> H >> SCC > N.

For lay prestige, sure. Lump Stanford in with YH. But for jobs, clerkships, academic positions, etc., I think that this is a more credited division, with certain strengths in each school.

Of course, the distinctions here are small on the absolute scale of law school prestige and opportunities.

Did I say I scored a 180? If I did, I apologize. I scored a 177. And don't forget that I scored a much more TTT 170.

No one knows my LSAT score. Seems gauche to talk about it (in a non-anonymous way on anything other than xoxo, of course). I don't know what it would accomplish. Those who scored significantly worse might feel inadequate. Those who scored similarly would think me a braggart. Those who scored higher would inwardly smile at what a boob I am. This is just not the kind of thing you would talk about, unless you're having a critical discussion on psychometrics and you're using it as an example.

I'm not sore that I didn't get into YHS. I'm a poor. You have no idea what a step up CCN is for me. I am pretty happy just to be a college graduate.

It's kind of specialized. I'd like to do microcap to midcap PE. It's a small market, but it dovetails well with the group I'm preferencing and will almost certainly get into. So I'll get good experience. If it doesn't pan out, whatever, but I'd like to get as much exposure to and experience with various business units on medium and small scales as I can. The endgame is to start my own business some time in my 30s.

Of course, I am generally a poor prognosticator over long periods.

My dentist might have a nice lifestyle in that he works 8-4 ish, but I would never want to do what he does all day...he also has his own practice so there isn't much social interaction with colleagues (other than his 80 year old secretary, and two dental hygienests who aren't particularly attractive or interesting)

If you went to caltech, can't you get into trading or quantitative finance? That would be a much better financial bet than law school, even if the days of 300k bonuses for 23 year olds are over.

There are even tons of more finance/quantitative consulting shops that would pay you 70ish starting with constant progressions.

jealousy is an ugly thing, old friend. console youself with the fact that it is unlikely he will attend any of YHS, let alone two of them.

i assume your pithy observations and off-hand slights will still have some sort of place here. i imagine you in a slightly ill-fitting emeritus role like kelly when valerie came to 90210, but perhaps I am not doing you justice and you will briefly form a robinson-duncanlike symbiosis before fading gracefully off into the sunset.

I think you have a great shot if you can come up with a decent "story." If you're straight from undergrad I say no (I didn't read the rest of the thread).

Well if you want HYS then take a few years off and do something kickass, like work for Obama, build robots, or the peace corps. Otherwise enjoy NYU :) But that's a great one too.

Try spinning the grades.

I don't think I want to go to CCN. I would rather just apply to dental schools.

do you have to declare race on your app at HYS? i know you don't have to at boalt, but i forget if this is a matter of public vs private or what.

if you don't, just write some bullshit essay about growing up in the hood with jamal and shadequa, and how jamal got capped while on his way to take his SAT, and you want to go to law school to make sure this type of injustice - and the injustice demonstrated by your racist professors' grading policies - is stamped out forever.

It is silly to "only" go to HYS for law school. Anyway, unless you're an SF officer or something, CCN is the absolute ceiling here.

This guy is the biggest fag flame ever. First off, I'm on Wall St. and I had to read ur crap and not be able to post due to every firm's compliance laws. Friday at noon till 2-3pm there is no way ur sitting around on ur ass posting this shit and even backoffice works on fridays and couldn't pull this stunt off. Second, as a first year you are not pulling 80k base, the standard was 60k which will now be moved to 70k. Plus, caltech is small as shit and first years would not be hard to find nor do my firm nor other BBs have first year caltech engineering kids. Unless you're at a shitty boutique (and lying about your salary) that's pretty unlikely.

Also, you don't want to stay in finance because you don't see a career in it, yet you are "in it for the money". No one who is doing well (80k first year) on Wall St. is thinking about anything else than making a 50k bonus or furthering their career on Wall St. They certainly don't post around a goddamn msg board at 2pm on Friday trying to go to law school AND dental school (are u fucking shitting me with the dental school).

Finally, you know shit about finance and Wall St. You shot down quant/consulting shops saying "bad lifestyle and job security". Those 2 reasons are actually WHY people do it besides banking's 90 hour weeks. Those who want an easier lifestyle and better job security (ITE) pick quant positions (security) or consulting (better lifestyle 9-5ish). Seriously you are a huge fucking dumbass with less knowledge of the finance field than college sophs/juniors who come at me with their resumes. I hope you did get a 180 because you are going to fucking need it.
