With that said, let the short story begin:

Elean, a young man with purple eyes, and a shriveled left foot limped slowly along the dark corridor. The old man held a torch that struggled to stay alight within the almost airless dungeon beneath Sir Vixthror's castle.

"Observe the roof, Elean. Do you see how the growth of the mold traces out a long, crooked line ? A pipe lies there . They're even hidden within the walls." The old man turned to tap the wall on his right side. When the echo was faint, he smiled in contentment, "aahh... there's another one right here"

"Whence comes the water that runs in these pipes, master ?"

"I never said that these pipes carried water, Elean "

"Then what do they carry, master ?"

"Perfection at last, " began Sir Vixthror.

"The human body is flawed. Naught remains of the body but stench and dust. How could I expect to perfect my creations, if I was a mere human ?"

"They say 'you are a fool, Sir Vixthror' and 'what you seek cannot be found'

"But with the contents of this vial, I will prove to the world that I am not a madman !"

With that final statement, a vial hovered over to a gigantic stone funnel in the middle of the room. Upon reaching the funnel, it flipped over and emptied its liquid contents into the funnel's opening.

One of Sir Vixthror's creations was drinking from the foul liquid that dripped from a small leak in the pipe. Elean's curious purple eyes had granted him darkvision --- a secret he disclosed to no one, not even the old man.

The creature was apparently licking the liquid off the wall. "No," Elean thought, "it doesn't have a tongue, nor a mouth for that matter." There was just a sucking noise that caused the liquid to enter into a hidden orifice on the creature's face.

One of the greyhounds was calmly trotting ahead when to it's master's astonishment it....vanished. At the spot where the dog had apparently disappeared, the two men saw that a portion of the grass was brown. Norbert thrusted his walking stick into the ground but the ground gave way so suddenly, and he had thrusted with such a violent force that both man and walking stick fell into the hole that suddenly opened up. The other dogs quickly darted away, perhaps aware of some sinister entity. Archibald initially gave chase after them, but after recognizing that the dogs didn't mean to return, he went back to the spot, and saw that the hole had gone, and all that remained was that brown patch of grass.

"well, it won't do to just leave him there," decided Archibald. He jumped feet first unto the patch and felt himself falling; although he saw nothing as he was enveloped in darkness.

At the bottom, he found himself in what looked like a cave, judging from the faint light which came from his right. That was the only place to go, so he followed.
