McKinsey 1st round interview next week - advice?

does everyone get a 1st round interview? what % make it onto round 2? |

this McKPST is scary - they give us 15 practice questions, and there is nothing else in existence ... and apparently the real thing is significantly different and harder. I haven't screwed around with percentages since college |

Date: October 4th, 2009 2:11 AM Author: hyperventilating digit ratio I thought I bombed the test and got a second round. I remember it being mostly (if not all) math and the questions being pretty long and complex toward the end. I didn't even finish it.
Anyway, I don't think the bar is too high to get a second round. The second round is what's killer. You can't screw up royally on any cases and you have to absolutely nail at least one. Otherwise, you are toast. The absolute worst, however, is the experience/leadership/skills question - i.e., tell me about a time you overcame a challenge on a collaborative project (stuff like that).
I think there are some good books about the case interview, e.g., Case in Point. Read that forward and backward before your second round should you get one. I wish I had done that. My second round with McKinsey was a disaster. |

I'm a little terrified of the experience/leadership/skills one too - straight through from undergrad into law school. that should be interesting if I get that far |

the test isn't that hard, just focus and don't spend too long on any problem. |

Date: October 6th, 2009 11:11 PM Author: sienna scourge upon the earth selfie TBF if you were good at the lsat you'll be good at 90% of the McKinsey test. Just have to read carefully (don't let your mind make connections that aren't explicit, correlation isn't causation, etc).
For the quants ones just be quick. It's simple math. Read the graphs and numbers carefully. KEEP MOVING.
It isn't hard. I only got one wrong and I didn't study.
The test is how people get dinged in the first callback round. |
