is it ever ok to ask prof to write reference letter when the class has not finished (no grades) but you have been an active participant in class?

will the prof turn it down?

I know I am lame, but I hate to get turned down ... :0(

Quite recently the people in my class have been very quiet in our seminar class (interviews? too much work?) and I am among the 3 most chatterboxes.

this is going to suck. I will feel slightly embarrassed in class and I wonder if this will also affect my grade. (he would be thinking that I dont exercise sound judgment)

How long have you had him as a prof? If you've only been in class for a few weeks, how can he speak to anything other than your ability to show up for class?

It could suck if you asked for the letter and he didnt starting writing it until during/after marking exams and your exam sucked. I've seen this end badly in one case

Why do you need one in early February? I'd ask someone else or wait as long as possible to ask this one.
