The reports says firms should look to their partner ranks, both equity and non-equity, in further cost-cutting efforts. According to the report, in the years prior to the downturn, the number of partners grew at a faster pace than the growth of overall lawyer headcount, leading to "over partnered" firms. The report predicts firms will address this imbalance by paring down partner ranks with "tough love" conversations and early retirement packages.
