AM I @ a disadvantage in applying to law schools?

Date: March 9th, 2010 2:03 PM Author: cheese-eating nighttime theater I plan on taking LSATs in December 2010 and, hopefully, applying in January 2011 for Fall 2011 admission. At the time of application, though, I will still have 48 credits remaining to earn my BA.
I will be earning these credits as follows: Winter 2010 (January) Semester - (6 credits) Spring 2011 (January - May) Semester - (24 credits) Summer 2011 (June - July) Semester - (18 credits)
Would I be at a disadvantage in applying to LS since I'd have so many credits-to-be-earned remaining?
FWIW, my GPA should be super high (3.9+) at the time of application and I'd be able to obtain a letter from an academic adviser detailing that I will, indeed, be able to enroll in all of those classes and am on track to graduation.

HYS may be reluctant to admit someone who hasn't shown he's capable of getting As in the harder classes in his major. If you've only aced things like composition and college algebra, you'll probably be somewhat less attractive. Also, I've heard that H doesn't like admitting people who are very young, for whatever reason - I may have read this on the admissions blog when I was applying. All schools claim to prefer people with some valuable post-graduate experience, but this may just be bullshit.
So if you changed majors late during UG, have a lot of As on your transcript in advanced courses, and are adding all these other courses in your senior year because you want a degree in Economics instead of English, or something, you're probably fine. Otherwise, this might be a problem, especially if you're very young and haven't done anything interesting. |
