said I can either "fax it or email it in" (or snail mail it). Does this mean they want an official one sent to them from the school or just one of those self-made class-by-class grade listings like is typically done for OCI?

I would send an unofficial - firms usually contact the schools directly when they want an official one for their records

The commenter above is wrong - firms don't contact schools directly for official transcripts, especially since that would be futile (your school is forbidden by federal law to dispense that information without your consent).

However, most firms are fine with an unofficial transcript for the interview process and the summer employment process. Many firms do request an official transcript after graduation, to verify that you graduated, but they are usually explicit about this request.

The fact that they are okay with fax or email confirms that unofficial should be fine.

My firm had us sign a waiver allowing them to request transcripts from my school.

OP: unofficial is fine.

this is what I was thinking about above - I've at worked at two firms and both required me to sign a waiver giving them permission to request official transcripts at their leisure

then you just seem uptight. if you are worried about it, send the unofficial transcript via email and note in the email "If you would prefer an official transcript, please let me know and I will have one sent directly from TTT Law School."

If you've summered there already you've signed a waiver that would allow them to get your official transcript without you. HTH.
