To be fair,
He's too busy being a fucking badass and forcefully steering the conservative wing of the court further right as he pursues his own fiercely personal vision of American federalism.
I sincerely HTFH.

To be fair,
You're white, and a faggot. Clarence Thomas is not, and not. He just doesn't have the time to deal with your dumb whiny bullshit, sorry its nothing personal.
I hope this clarified things for you.

To be fair,
...As he drug Scalia and Rehnquist to the right? Yeah that's the account.
Also lol if you think that pointing out the cases where Thomas' views didn't win out proves that he has not managed to swing SCOTUS to the right.
You seem like the kind of guy who points to a non-zero murder rate in a large city and smugly declares that it proves that crime prevention efforts have failed to reduce crime there, conveniently ignoring the fact that we have no idea whether the murder rate would be even higher without those efforts.

yep, Rehnquist got drug alright! from opposing Miranda in the 70s to upholding it in Dickerson b/c, after all, by 2000, Miranda had become embedded in ARE national culture.
and Scalia, boy did he ever tack right! from being on board with Lopez & Morrison to concurring in Raich.
yep, Thomas sure did a job on those two!

To be fair,
Seeing as how neither of us can peer into an alternate universe where Clarence Thomas did not join the court I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this claim is unprovable either way.
I did cite a pretty well researched book to back up my assertion, however. You cited a cherry-picked handful of cases from the last 20 years.

ok, you don't like that i "cherry-picked" cases.
1/ go here
http://mqscores.wustl.edu/measures.php
2/ open justices.xls
3/ tell me whether Rehnquist became more or less conservative after Thomas joined the court

Rehnquist was a partisan hack.
He feared that if Miranda were overturned, soccer moms by the thousands would be jarred into voting Dem in the 2000 election.
Rehnquist tried to pull a similarly politically-motivated stunt with Casey in 1992.

To be fair,
Probably somewhere in the top half but below the top 1/3. Who really knows? I like him a lot personally so I put him up there, it's all speculation though.
I think he's certainly smart enough to be on the court but he doesn't really belong there in this day and age because he's not a terribly "political" person; he's a fundamentalist and a true believer, but 99% of the time he clings to philosophical principles where all of the other justices cling to practical politics. And people aren't sure what to make of that.

To be fair,
I actually meant those boundaries to be inclusive and just worded it poorly, so if I had to guesstimate I would put him ~5th-3rd smartest. Who really knows? I know it's fashionable to call him dumb but he graduated middle of his class at Yale, which is definitely not "dumb AA nig" territory.
I don't think his raw intelligence is his greatest strength as a justice.
