actually, a lot of that money was accumulated in the latter half of the 1800's, as haiti borrowed even more money to finance an invasion and occupation of the area now known as the dominican republic.
haiti, of course, eventually lost those wars.
greed and rapine and gratuitous warfare often have negative consequences.
perhaps haitians should have learned that lesson back then instead of continuing to turn toward violence and anarchy over the succeeding decades.

But I do agree that an women with an engineering degree is taken seriously in China but not in the United States.
