PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION

i tried every anti-depressant. i'm currently only taking klonopin because anti-depressants don't work, or the side effects are too severe AND they don't work anyway. i was even prescribed ritalin as a last resort, but i abused the shit out of it.

after suffering for so long, i had a good understanding of the growing list of my specific symptoms. the whole time i was being treated, i always asked every new shrink whether there were any tests that could be done to rule out any physical problems. i mean, i have a great job, great wife, and a wonderful baby boy. there was nothing to be depressed about. every time, doc said there's nothing he can really test for except thyroid deficiencies. but my thyroid was fine.

yet this "brain fog" progressively got worse, my libido dropped to nil, i developed high blood pressure and high cholesterol, i had night sweats, i couldn't sleep longer than an hour at a time, i had no motivation, etc. etc. christ, there was a laundry list of shit that was wrong with me.

so i decided to take the initiative to research myself. fuck what the doctors advised. i stumbled across an illness within 5 minutes of searching online that described ALL of my symptoms: LOW TESTOSTERONE.

i knew this had to be it. i went to the doc and it was easy enough to get them to order the test. though my doc thought it was baloney because i am in decent shape (a slight pot-belly, though i rarely drink and i eat healthy--another symptom of low testosterone) and i'm in my late 20's.

the results came back and it was revealed that i had testosterone levels LOWER than a sick 90 year old man. in fact, my total testosterone was only a few points higher than the average 40 year old woman.

oddly enough, i was thrilled to hear this. i found the problem after 8 fucking years of misery!

so, i made a follow up appt with the doctor and was appalled to hear that he wouldn't give me testosterone replacement therapy because "it wasn't that far out of the normal range." i flipped out (as much as i could muster with my womanly hormone levels). his reasoning was that his range of normal total testosterone was 200-1100. mine was 165. i screamed at him that i found nothing that indicated even sick 90-year old men averaged below 250. he didn't care, explaining replacement therapy's severe side effects (actually the only objectively severe ones are rarely experienced).

a different doctor also refused. i was dumbfounded. my last resort was to call a buddy of mine who just became a doctor...i was his first real patient. i live in CA, he lives in NY, so i forwarded him my test results. he and his colleagues were appalled that these doctors denied replacement therapy. he immediately filed a complaint about them with the AMA (striver, i know), filled out the necessary paperwork, and within a day, i had my testosterone patches.

this was 2 weeks ago. i started feeling better within 2 days. and by better i mean ALL my symptoms were subsiding. today, i feel like a brand new person. so fucking happy, no side effects...i feel like i'm seeing the world with new eyes. i'm sleeping, i'm wanting to fuck, i can concentrate, i have motivation...every minute i'm alive is an absolute joy.

i know this is long but i just wanted to get this message out there. i know you read through this if you feel like you are hopelessly lost--that you will be depressed forever. and i sincerely hope this post is the beginning to the end of your misery. every aspect of my life has done (and is) a 180. i can't believe how nice i'm being.

i will bump always and forever (especially for the sad, sad night crew). please let me know if this post ends up helping you. that'd make me feel good. if you need help with this process, don't hesitate to ask.

HTFH...taking Qs.

low estrogen (oprah winfrey had this acrtually) can cause the same symptoms in women. not sure if low testosterone is such a big deal for women though...check webmd for symptoms of low testosterone in women and immediately schedule a test to get your estrogen levels tested.

edit: also, estrogen replacement cured oprah of all her symptoms.

not that i ever saw that fainting during blood tests is a symptom but it's possible because i always have to lay down for 5 minutes and drink the juice before i get up. one time, i got up acting cool, and fainted.

guess i could just ask my doc friend in NY.

If your body has low testosterone levels, taking ashwagandha can fix it.

----------

Give men a daily dose of 5 g Withania somnifera – commonly known as Ashwagandha – and monitor their hormone levels. Their testosterone production will rise by forty percent within three months, researchers at the Indian Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University discovered when they did trials on 75 men who were having problems conceiving children.

I assume any direct administration of testosterone will throw off the body's homeostasis. There's probably a reason you're underproducing and will revert to your baseline after the administration. This herb has been used for a couple thousand years as a general adaptogen. If your endocrine system is overproducing, it brings it down. If you're underproducing, it brings it up. It's a modulator, not a synthetic increase. It also has various positive modulating effects on the H/P/A axis and neurotransmitters, which gives it a general antidepressant effect.

Taking Ashwagandha, Reishi mushrooms and Schizandra berry powder lifted me out of depression. They've been used safely for centuries for exactly this type of effect.

didn't have my T monitored. Stress reduces T production though. Each of these reduces your body's response to stress. i'm sure there was an indirect effect. I have been lifting more since I began, don't know if that's due to extra T though

Google "adaptogen" It's one of those rare herbs that keeps various bodily systems within a normal range. It doesn't stimulate things in only one direction. It has literally been used for a couple thousand years in India with a nearly perfect safety profile, much like marijuana.

I hopped on it and haven't looked back.

Schizandra and Reishi are likewise the miracle herbs discovered in Japan. Perfect safety profile combined with modulating effects on the body and brain.

Definitely worth trying for 90 days. The cheapest place online is this place. http://www.herbalcom.com/store.php3?list=cats&session=b77ec5639476470b3bd957612d21708d Buy the powder in bulk and cap your own with empty gel caps. Otherwise you'll pay a premium price for some vitamin company's pre-capped extract.

for your health, I wouldn't be too quick to evangelize the miracle cure for depression. This happens on a lot of forums, and the person has just been bumped into a hypomanic phase. Hormones can do crazy things to your mind. You might be in emotional flux.

good luck though

You must have amazing insurance.

1 lb is $7.25

If you take 5g a day, that's a 90 day supply.

Empty gel caps are $7 for 750.

http://www.allstarhealth.com/f/now-double_00_gelatin_caps.htm

That's $5 a month per herb.

not necessarily. those are only 2 symptoms as i'm sure you can count. the loss of libido seemed to me, though, to be a universal symptom among all those with low testosterone.

here, check for yourself to see if low t is still a possibility without these common symptoms:

see the above link and take the test to get a general idea of whether you should even bother getting tested. if you have a bunch of these symptoms, i say you have nothing to lose to get the blood test.

also, i did not identify with the symptoms of "loss of muscle mass" or "inability to gain muscle." i think they may just coincide with the natural loss of t that comes with age.

Did the testosterone replacement cause you to grow body hair in all kinds of places you don't want it? I know a guy who had this problem, and it helped him a lot, but after he started the T replacement hair on his chest, under his arms, etc... started getting really thick, and he started growing hair on his back where he hadn't before, though doctor said it wasn't supposed to happen. Small price to pay.

I've never been depressed, but I've used anabolic steroids, and I can say they make a huge difference in a person. Confidence, well-being, physical state, mental state, &c. are all greatly enhanced.

I've read talk of HRT on BBing discussion boards for years, and while I haven't tried low-dose test for prolonged periods of time, anecdotal reports are always positive.

i'm not up to speed on anabolic steroids and i've been looking at this computer all day so i really don't feel like googling. but can you describe the effect of anabolics on t? my guess is it shoots your total t significantly further than it needs to be.

any link you can provide that parallels my experience (like someone thought it was depression but HRT changed their mind)?

Well, you're likely on testosterone cypionate, so you know precisesly what the effects feel like. More test feels like what you have, only more. If you're on 200mg EOW, imagine 200mg is like QD.

I wasn't thinking any specific posts on HRT. I was just relaying a generality. Check any of the major BBing/anabolic discussion boards for first-hand experiences.

you could have just bypassed all of that shit by getting injectable test from the local gym meathead.

ps - seriously, if you want to feel like you are on top of the fucking world and to amplify the results of the test, inject 2IUs of human growth hormone daily. for a d00d, 2 is all you need, preferably 1IU twice daily. get a batch of diabetic size needles and vary your injection sites (r thigh, l thigh, gut, r tricep, l tricep) with a cycle of 5 days on, 2 days off.

most bodybuilder meatheads will tell you to use moar and most of them will take like 8 a day but that is far too much.

well yeah that was my point. now you know you have low levels, you can go and treat it. i'm not trying to knock the patch thing, but certain stuff has to be injected into a vein to be effective, and test is one of them. just like most anabolic steroids can't be in pill form; the chemical compounds break down in your stomach. i just don't know enough about this patch thing but my immediate thought would be that it's not giving you enough.
