people are pretty accomplished and interesting though. i could definitely see myself making a lot of friends here. and boston is growing on me even though i'm a west coast guy. |

from my understanding, there is some interaction. some of the Phd students are TA's for the second-year electives. and i think DBA accouting students who don't have MBA's have to take the first semester required MBA courses. |

every JD/MBA I talked to said their MBA experience and network were far more valuable than the JD part. And virtually all of them want to stay in business. I have no idea why they did a JD, but their interests lie in both areas, and they weren't quite sure what their career goals were, so they just did both. |

In contrast, both Harvard and Stanford win virtually all of their cross-admit battles with Wharton. So, basically, when do you think someone should choose HBS and when do you think someone should choose the Stanford GSB (if they were to have that luxury)? Date: August 31st, 2010 12:50 AM Author: Bearded roommate set i applied to stanford, it was my first choice but got rejected after interview. i'm originally from the west coast and worked in L.A. before coming here. i really like stanford's culture, and since i want to go back to the west coast it made sense to go there. unfortunately, they did not want me. they're insanely selective but look for different types of applicants from HBS. the latter goes for your typical smart kid who did well in college and then worked for a "brand" name, whether it's an i-bank, hedge fund, PE, MBB consulting, general management, etc. Stanford loves going for non-traditional folks like those who did non-profit, started their own company, etc.
In general, if someone is fortunate enough to get into both, they should pick HBS if they want to go into any area of finance except venture capital, or they want to work abroad and want to use the harvard name to maximize their impact. |

yes, a lot of private equity firms and hedge funds will look through the resume book, visit campus, but only hire a few people at most. |
