how do you know what the exit options are like? what are they? why aren't they similar to Manhattan DA exit options?

people get stuck there after 3 years, and it's tough to survive on that pay man. there's no city residency requirement, so you can move to jersey city like one dude i know.

It's still a job where genuine interest can give you a leg up over someone with better qualifications.

Supposedly a fair number of people leave after the initial commitment, and I assume some of them must find their way into private practice. Beyond that I don't know.

i know someone who took it over some pretty decent biglaw options. you can get good litigation experience right from the start there.

why did that person choose nyc law dep't over biglaw? also, rank of firm? how long has the person been there? where is he or she now?

i dont want to give any personal details except that he/she was not my year (so lateraling to biglaw or midlaw looked like a viable future option at the time). the firms were below V10 but still pretty decent. the reasoning was that it gives real litigation experience as a 1st year and the cases are interesting/thinly staffed.

dont think he regrets it. it's a different path than biglaw though. it's good for people who enjoy litigating and don't require a set career track to follow.
