fighting everything, all the civil procedure rules (I don't know what goes with what, what needs to be with what, where it has to be sent, who gets a copy, who doesn't, the time I have...this knowledge will come with experience and not be so bad), the sheer amount of paper/paperwork, not knowing how to do anything,

EDIT:getting assignments that deal with part of a large case that have been going on for a long time and not knowing facts, case files

This all seems learnable.

To me, the thought of writing brief after brief for the next 5 years seems daunting.

We don't have to write many briefs. I get an assignment for a case that's been going on for over two years and it seems overwhelming/impossible to confidently/correctly complete what needs to be done

Dood, getting staffed on an existing case midway through sucks balls. Do the best you can. Once you get staffed on new cases as they come in, everything will be much easier. You will know all the facts and people that are relevant to your job. It gets way, way better. I promise.

Sometimes it's like pulling teeth from the other side just to get what they're supposed to give you, then there's the hassle of collecting documents from your own side. That's before reviewing the docs for relevance, privilege, etc.

I briefly worked in litigation for a shitlaw firm. Responding to and drafting discovery requests was pretty mind-numbing.

It'd be great but there are just TOO MANY FUCKING DOCUMENTS. Now I realize why lawyers bleat about the wonders of appellate law. Once you get herded into a warehouse of documents you kinda wish the firm had a handy arsonist on hand.
