a. in 2008 and 2009, hitting 2000 wasn't easy in many practice groups
b. KE bonuses aren't based solely on hours
c. The actual "bump up" for going over 2000 wasn't that high. Pre-ITE, hitting e.g. 2400 hours would mean an extra 20-50k depending on class year and quality of work. I've heard from many sources (including associates at KE) that ITE, it's more like a 5-10k extra. An extra 5-10k for an extra ~400 hrs billed isn't much and not worth it in itself; it may be worth it for staying on partnership track and avoiding being stealthed
