dood. did you know you were in the bottom half of submissions? how does that make you feel? getting YLJ is generally a cinch if you can write.

what's the mood like among the new Yale Law & Policy Review staff members? still bitter about being rejected by YLJ? these are people used to doing the most prestigious things all their lives, so it must sting like a bitch.

what really sucks is that even YLJ was walk-on not too long ago.

anyway, as long as you have 75%+ Hs you should be fine for appellate clerkships regardless of a TTT journal.

PROTIP: look at previous mastheads of your journal and google names of previous members + "yale law" ----you can often check out tons of firm bios which will list what clerkships people got.

That's what I thought too, but upon further inspection it seems like we have another shot in the spring that is just a bluebooking competition (but they only take like 3 or 4 kids) or you can "note-on" but that's tough to do too since tons of people are competing (and at this point I'm convinced my writing is perceived to be pretty shitty, at least when it's graded by other students).

I'm probably still going to do both of these, I'm just not expecting to get on still. Just was wondering how the lack of YLJ will likely affect clerkship opps.

If you want academia putting in the 20 hours of effort to get on the journal might be worth it.

Definitely putting in the effort on it. Don't care too much about academia (maybe down the line but probably not b/c I think I already lack the credentials), just clerkships.

yea I'd just like to do one for experience and a year or two before going to a firm (at least Dist. Ct., and maybe COA after). I'd really like to get SDNY/EDNY.

make sure you get your otter wrapped up. There are clerks out in the cold and a good otter is nice and warm.

it's at a firm that requires everyone to clerk first, if they want to clerk, and the firm didn't have any layoffs, etc. but yea, that's a concern.

I don't see the point. I am a transfer from a higher T14 and I have good grades as is (top 5% at a T6), and I have an offer from a really good firm. I want to clerk but only federal, and really I think Dist. Ct. is more appealing because of my interest in litigation - I would do COA after Dist. Ct. mainly because of the prestige factor.
