For exit opportunities outside of CA, are Irellians at a major disadvantage compared to V10 NYC associates?

I was somewhat dismayed by the lack of exit options at irell. however, exit ops in lit are generally shit. if you plan on doing anything ip or want to stay out west after irell, i still think irell is better than a v10.

right, but who want to spend their entire life billing? if you are just looking to go to another firm, then go to irell. although most people leaving irell seem to either clerk, go to gov't, or do something non-law related (one guy that just left went to go be a stand up comic).

my point is that in house opportunities seem to be rare.

how's irell doing ITE (or post-ITE)? Offer rate for recent summer class?

i don't know the offer rate. but the only people i know who may have been no offered did things that would've got them no offered pre-ITE.

the firm is doing great. its revenue and profits will likely be in line with last years numbers, which is saying something because last year the firm had a huge increase in ppp. everyone i know at the firm is extremely busy. for example, my mentor over the summer has billed 2000 for the year as of august.

So lateraling as a litigator from Irell isn't too different as from a V10 in NY? What about for gov't jobs?

I love the firm - I'm just not 100% sure on IP (it sounds alright on paper but who really knows) and not 100% sure I would want to stay in CA forever.

lateraling should be the same. recently an associate lateraled to quinn nyc. most people don't leave irell for other firms though, which i guess speaks well about the firm (or maybe after irell, associates never want to bill again).

i wasn't sure on ip either. it's pretty similar to regular lit tho and you can avoid it if you try.

Congrats. Irell is harder to get than most of the V10 and several of the V5, and exit options reflect that: outside of firms like Wachtell, W&C and Keker/Munger it probably has the best exit options of any firm in the country.
