Wait, what cities are on the fringes of the MidWest? I always thought of Denver, Salt Lake City, etc. as being part of the Mountain Region (not necessarily the MidWest). Also, how far south does the MidWest go? I saw someone write H-town. I thought Houston was SouthWest or South.

Edit: Also, my pick is Milwaukee.

Can't believe only one person mentioned MPLS. Having lived in a few midwest cities, the only one outside of Chi would be Minneapolis. By cool, I think you mean similar to Lincoln Park, Bucktown et al. The rest are like Milwaukee, just varying in size and sports teams. Good place for families though.

lol, no. pittsburgh is 60 miles from youngstown (heart of the old industrial rustbelt midwest) and THREE HUNDRED miles from philly. it lies BEYOND the Allegheny Mountains, which is the traditional dividing line between "northeast" and "midwest."

now, if you were saying that harrisburg is part of the northeast, there's a good case for that. you would have a decent argument.

but pittsburgh?

not even close. you have NO argument.

For fuck's sake, Harrisburg?! "decent argument"?!? Have you ever even been there?!

By your moronic argument w.r.t. the Allegheny Mountains, half of West Virginia is in the Midwest. NO.

Appalachia, if you insist on a region.

Also, Maryland is south of the M-D line and I would not describe it as a Southern state (although parts of MD are Southern).

pittsburgh has much more in common with steel belt cities like cleveland, detroit, milwaukee, and chicago than east coast cities like philly, baltimore, or boston.

if you drive west from philly, you'll get rural, southern feeling areas in central PA. as you continue west, you'll fist get that midwestern feel in pittsburgh and it continues all the way out to minneapolis.
