got into lawl school (t14) but kind of want to make some money (yeah, very little) and retake the LSAT for a shot at HYS. or just go to the t14 school.

dad thinks being a paralegal is TTT (it is) and that it's full of 2 year college TTTs getting paralegal certificates. he said me working as a paralegal and then going to law school is like a nurse becoming a doctor.

truth?

plenty of people do this and do well, i suppose. it's kind of overrated and fucking pointless, though.

i know it adds nothing of value to law school admissions. but does it give some boost for firms? like X GPA, Y law school straight from UG vs. X GPA, Y law school + 2 years paralegal in corp. assume worthless humanities degree

he's willing to pay half of the first year along with my mom (they're divorced). she doesn't want me to graduate with debt and will help pay for half of the rest of the years. that's really generous and i don't think i can accept it, especially for full sticker (50k per year) at a place like boalttt

Do you really think you have a shot at HYS if Boalt was the T14?

I dunno, sounds like you should probably just get on with it if you really think law school is worth the risk (and it probably is with a humanities degree unless you're good at math).

Imo if ur gonna work before law school do it an field tangentially related to law but not law itself, like high tech or finance

Makes it easier to become "specualized" later on

One year as a paralegal at a V5 Biglaw firm is TTT?

I know plenty of folks who took the paralegal route, even at midlaw firms, and they've ended up at T6 law schools (i.e., NYU).

If one spends a year or two at a place like Skadden, what's the problem?

paralegals at big firms make very decent money. i think it's definitely good to have some work experience, wherever it may be, than just running off to law school.

and if you have a 4.0 then absolutely. don't waste a gpa like that on Boalt or GULC

I know several BIGLAW paralegal -> top LS people. i don't think it's anything special, but it seems to be a good option.

thanks guys. it's for a v50 but top in a secondary market so I don't know. but it's pretty damn tough to find firms that will hire entry levels nowadays
