They did some mathematical shit but they didn't actually invent very much. They mostly just preserved a bunch of ancient Greek and Egyptian learning, and they profited from having access to trade routes that were off limits to western Europe at that time, but on the whole they were no more impressive than the Persians, and far less so than the Romans. Otherwise, yeah pretty much, they did preserve the knowledge of the ancient world, but didn't add all that much. Some solid architecture, but it mostly emerged from Byzantium or Greco-Roman styles.
There was one or two decent medical dudes, but they were basically writing commentaries on Galen.
Also, what did any of this have to do with Islam? Most of the decent ones were condemned as blasphemers at some point.
It's like claiming Leonardo Da Vinci is part of THe Great Catholic Golden Age |

The "dark ages" were pretty shitty in the West and mostly a TTT and the Islamic thinkers preserved much of Aristotle/Greece/Byzantium until the west started to emerge from TTT-dom circa late 11th early 12th century-ish, but Medieval Europe had its share (more than the Islamic World) after that during the High Middle Ages which was largely sparked by contact w/the Arabs during the crusades.
The Medieval Christians produced about as much of value as Medieval Islam (which is to say, not all that much). Much of it centers on bizarre logics, theology, and metaphysics, just like these thinkers.
But HMA had William of Ockham, Peter of Lombard, Lull, Albertus Magnus, Aquinas, etc etc. After that, it was all downhill for the Arabs.
Medieval mnemonics was when the art reached its peak for the most part. Of course, in this more immediate age, the importance of such endeavors is largely lost. |
