BB never did well online and their pitiful attempt to turn themselves into a market place was just sad. Amazon will PWN all, and if they develop a payment process offering like PayPal they will really become unstoppable. The marketplace model PWNS all else. Being online by itself doesn't make you successful. Overstock makes no money and is horribly run despite getting ridiculous traffic. A lot of retailers are just miserably run. Their warehouses are too big. Their RMA policies too generous. Their buyers are incompetent. Too many workers, etc.... JCPenny with their new pricing strategy is also screwing the pooch. Buyers only say they care about quality but their buying habits say otherwise. They care about 90 day return policies and price. eBay has been playing with quality v. price for 15 years and the harder they make it to sell luxury goods and the easier they make it to sell $5 crap from China the more money they make. The entire point of their TRS program is to enable them to compete with Walmart in the cheap Chinese plastic crap business and to force sellers of high priced item to page 10,000 or off the site and onto niche sites like Etsy. Anyway, with Photoshop I make 99 cent crap look awesome, and buyers can complain and bitch and return as much as they like -- our models let us factor all that into the price. Its a science.
