hey i went on a ride today. 50miles. it included bear mountain (387m climb over 5miles). it took me 34minutes and i was dying the last 2miles. it was 20miles from my car and i had a really hard time getting back because i hit the wall and i was doing like 5mph even on much smaller climbs on the way back.

so the point is that if u choose to park your car on palisade parkway exit 14, u can do several climbs about 100-150m and bear mountain all within 10miles. and the road is very smooth.

of course this is not the same as some of those climbs in santa barbara or utah or reno,nv or even asheville,nc. but I (boor) do not think i'd be able to climb 1500m. or at least i probably wouldnt enjoy it. so whats the point of all this?

i can say that nyc really sucks because there are a lot of lakes in that area like lake tiorati and lake welch and u're not allowed to swim. they just have those buyoys 10m from shore and cops dont allow u to go beyond. and u cant even swim when lifeguards arent there which is any time outside of june26-august30. nyc is just filled with fucktards.

high quality $2500 retail. the only thing that could make it faster would be racing pedals(using those hamstrings) and $500wheels. but there isnt a bike in the world that make u go up like a pro. Lance Armstrong would probably climb that hill in 15:00. so for him it would be boring.

i've climbed bear mountain on a bike a few times. it was very tough the first time i did it. i thought i was going to faint and fall off the bike on the steep stretch on perkins memorial drive. my subsequent climbs felt 10x easier though. i think a big part of climbing is knowing where to exert energy and where to save it.

u know there is strava.com/segments where u can look up different climbs. people with names "fat bastard" climb better than i. btw the first time i climbed it was a year ago when i rode my bike all the way from staten island and back. then it took me about 45mins because i was really tired at the beginning. since then i realized that it's better to drive nearby (i went to sloatsburg) but a much better starting point is exit 14 off palisade. if u're tough u can do laps around bear mountain. perhaps the people who do it in like 20-25mins might be interested in bigger mountains. but as for me, i think i would always feel like dying if i tried a bigger mountain. Perkins is different from the first 3miles because of the grade. and most of the bigger mountains have the same grade as Perkins or even steeper.

there are some places in usa that also have this. like santa barbara has a hill from the sea to some mountain and nearby some other mountain. and in santa barbara it's perfect weather year round. also a hill near san frnacisco. and near reno,nv. and hawaii has a mountain. but i dont think those mountains would be enjoyable for me..

i think for x-country i could really appreciate a nice course (i.e. nothing near nyc). of course pros would embarass me (i competed with some top guys). but regular people i could completely destroy them. and in x-skiing i could do a 2hr session and repeat it again the next day. with cycling there is no way that i'll be able to do any cycling tomorrow. i'll still have trouble walking up the stairs. and my ass will be hurting.

bear mountain today took 30:38. last time it was 16:00 on the first half and 18:00 on the latter(steeper) half, but i was already tired. today it was 15:18 on the first half. i did not notice much progress... i was using the lowest gear the entire distance. 60yo people can beat me..
