Is this a joke? Am I worried about an essay that I don't have to study in advance for, will be given all the applicable facts at the time I take it, and do so with thousands of TTT students?

No. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence can do well on the PT's.

LOL, I remember I'd actually started work on an MPT practice test before I realized there was absolutely no need.

I didn't even know there was going to be an MPT when I took my bar (not Cali). I didn't take a bar class, and I was studying using a set of used barbri books from 5 years prior, before the MPT was a standard part of my state's bar. So I was studying in contemplation of 12 essays the first day, and the MBE the next day. The night before the bar, I decided to glance at the syllabus (or whatever you want to call it) that outlined the bar schedule. It was like "Day 1, Afternoon Session - Multistate Performance Test." I was like "WTF is THAT?!" I ended up crushing it.

it's fine. follow the directions they give you to a T, start writing after 45 minutes at the most (barbri will tell you to spend an hour outlining, but this causes a lot of people to not finish), and read through a few sample answers. pace yourself and plan out how much time you're going to spend on each call.

in february one of the PTs was a closing argument. the directions said to write the argument just like you would give it in court. they said nothing about using headings, etc. after the test people were talking about how they gave it headings and sub-headings, but the sample answers posted to the bar site don't use headings. maybe they didn't dock points for using headings, but the point is that there is no need to deviate from the instructions.

it's a great way to give free points to non-retards, but it's also possible for a non-retard to overthink it and blow it.

Yes, this is correct. And this also applies to the rest of the bar in general. A lot of people failed that I would not have predicted to fail, and I think it was mainly due to psyching themselves out, particularly with mbe questions.

people get excited about the PTs and try to get all sophisticated like they're drafting a 2000 word SCOTUS brief. nowhere on the bar should you be sophisticated.
