Cravath has the sweatshop rep. M&A always ends up being inconsistent.

The major Chapter 11 group people I know seem to work more than anyone else. Deadlines aren't as crazy but the sheer volume of shit to do is fucking insane. Year after year, a lot of the top ten hourly billable partners in NYC are Chp. 11 sharks at Milbank.

IME judges let everything get pushed around and there are usually so many parties involved that nothing comes in on time. I'm not saying you don't need to file shit when you need to file it, but it seems more like a steady avalanche of shit in and out instead of everyone sitting around at 4:00am trying to get shit ready for a closing.

Yeah. I understand why some of my friends at K&E do it because they get bonused accordingly, but my two bros who went to Weil are just getting trounced.

I knew someone who did a pretty prestigious BK clerkship then decided he wanted corp or lit or anything else based on his impression of the workload and what he was hearing from other people.

I'm not sure, as the exit options are pretty shitty. I understand K&E BK bros being okay with it bc they're getting paid, but Weil? got damn.

Partnership track at a lower firm is pretty solid. Isn't PPP in the lower V100 still like. 600-800k? Im guessing not too many in house positions for bankruptcy specialists. Lol. Just lol at a lawyer moving straight to a hedge fund though. They require top IB experience I thought.

yeah, I dunno why you'd do Weil or K&E BK unless it's your only way to get your foot in the door at a V10 or you want to cop those K&E bonuses for a few years and then bounce.

I imagine that if you actually know what you're doing with BK, you'll be pretty valuable to shit firms and regional midlaw. It's specialization that carries over and some of those dudes develop good practices doing turnaround stuff and advising companies, not just battling through BKs.

2700 is not bad at all if spread consistently across the year; this is basically 54 hours/week over 50 weeks. Good Top M&A lawyers also average around 2700, but they have 90 hours/week when on multiple deals and 20 hours/week (when they still have to sit in the office all day when not billing time).

man i've given up on trying to figure out which firms have the best hours. seems to totally depend on the partner you're working for. seems like every firm, sweatshops included, has junior associates billing anywhere from below 1800 to 2400+

Is there any financial upside at att to being in one of these bankruptcy groups? Seems like terrible hours for terrible exit opportunities. At least v10 corporate can get in house.
