Sotomayor admits she's not smart, strives to just be "competent"

On the Supreme Court since 2009, Sotomayor said it was tough at first as justices made references that went over her head. She said joining the high court amounted to joining an ongoing conversation among justices who had served for years.
“I figure I may not be the smartest judge on the court but I’m going to be a competent justice,” she said. “I’m going to try to be the best I can and each year I think my opinions have been getting better. And I’m working at finding my voice a little bit.”

2) It does not take alot of self-awareness to realize that people like Roberts and Kagan are substantially smarter than you. Also, her "ways to maximize it" involve being a loud bully.
3) Everybody knows Soto is an incompetent tard. Even Dems. Nothing to make a stir about really if it is already known.

So, in essence, he'd be MAF if she claimed to be as smart as any other justice, and MAF if she didn't.
In that case, let him be equally MAF about Thomas and any other justice who we deem to be below anything except the highest standard for justices.
Justices, like any group, allow for some degree of variation in intelligence. What degree of variation is acceptable, CGM? Should we IQ test justices? In appointing justices, is a President required/strongly expected to select them on the basis of the highest possible intelligence to the exclusion of any other factors? |
