Strong in CA and especially the Bay Area. They have some pretty prominent faculty in the area of Civil Procedure, and I think Geoffrey Hazard is there now, too.

True. I heard the school is ultra competitive and the alumni arent helpful at all, though.

The word is that the school is highly competitive.

The curve is also kind of brutal from what I can tell, as in it isn't grade inflated in the way that it is at most law schools.

I'm not sure I would agree with the comment about the alumni support, though. I would actually see that as one of the school's strengths, based on the somewhat limited experience I've had.

I have first hand experience with students at the school and this is a huge problem at the school. Alumni just arent that helpful. Shit I have a hard time believing it too.

I concur. The standard view of Hastings students is that going to Hastings is an incredibly impersonal experience. The number of alumni is so big and the experience at Hastings so impersonal that I just don't think they develop the kind of shared bond that would make having such a large alumni base helpful.

Good profs though.

Hastings is a moderately respected school that's not prestigious enough to get noticed on this board but not TTT enough to get constantly trashed, like other lower tier 1s.

I currently go to Hastings.

1. Yes alumni give you the finger, they are no help.

2. The harsh grading curve is somewhat a myth. Class rank is what is important. If you got to hastings, you need to be in the top20% to get a big law job. so who cares about what your gpa is, you just need to be in the top 20%.

3. Famous Civ pro profs, but they are also the worse teachers.

4. Hastings is a solid school. Hastings is the catch all of USC/UCLA/Boalt rejects. you can still find solid jobs in CA from hastings.

What percentage, if any, is necessary to be competitive for ADA in Southern California? OC, LA, SD, San Bernardino, especially.

By ada im assuming you mean assistant DA's. There are no grade cut offs for those jobs. they "perfer" you be in the top half. I get the idea that your interview, advocacy skills, and demonstrated interest are more important.

Why are Department of Justice jobs much more competitive than ADA jobs when the pay scale is not much higher (as compared to major metropolitan cities such as LA, etc)? Solely a prestige thing? Fewer hours?

Seems harsh. Isnt Hastings a respectable Tier 1? 60k seems awfully low for top 21%-35%. I don't think you're correct here.

for whatever reason, people from that school always seem to kick ass on the cases i've had. they're smart, but it's not so much of a part of their identities that they get tangled up in it like so many yale and stanford people, in particular, do. the motivation of 'having something to prove' can be powerful, too. it's not that hard to close any gaps, many of which are illusory
