anyway, who knows what their deals ended up being, but the point is that "sony's profit" is totally different from the SPC's profit, since the SPC will basically be paying sony fees for shit like distribution or whatever. SPCs are very often unprofitable even if the film overall was a winner for the actual Studio (forest gump is the most infamous example. writer received $0 on his pts)
this is somewhat outdated info tho and shit evolves in this field. but this was how shit worked in the 90s and even into the 2000s. most exciting stuff about the sony hack is the possibility that people curious about the current state of production finance will be brought up to speed on the new deal structures. |
