He's now against planned parenthood, the moderates will go screaming to vote for the Dems now, ironically though, this will actually boost Trump's popularity amongst republicans to a much higher degree. It's as if Trump is saying and doing anything to be the nominee, but is coming off as so extreme, even to moderates, that he wants to lose even the remote chances of success at a general election.

Do moderates really love Planned Parenthood that much? It's really a shitty organization.

If Trump just proposes to abolish these abortion centers, without offering alternative abortion centers, it's over, moderates won't bother with him. Ironically, if he offers an alternative, it won't help him with republicans as much. He would have been better off staying silent on the whole issue, if he wanted the moderate vote. He just seems extremely aggressive at going after the republican nomination at this point, to the point of alienating moderates, who would have otherwise agreed on trade, immigration, etc. Not even W. Bush was this extreme.

No, by Trump becoming extreme, he's blowing his chances even more, Benzo is going to be even happier, because this will boost Hillary's prospects as 'oppressed woman' vs. 'privileged white male narrative', before people didn't care so much because they liked his trade and immigration policies, similar for why they liked Perot, but if he pushes too far, they will dislike him far more in general, even if extremist republicans like him more for the same reasons.

I think most people expect a candidate to be pro or anti abortion. The unforgivable sin is to switch. Then you've alienated both camps.

If it comes down to a potential anti-abortion republican house + senate + executive branch, if anti-abortion legislation comes through, it's a risk moderates wouldn't take. At least W. Bush was more nuanced on this position, he was pro-life yes, but did not call to aggressively shutdown abortion centers, etc. The latter is just extreme, and is a negative to moderates.

I don't think moderates plan votes on such a large scale. Reps are guaranteed control of the House in the foreseeable future due to gerrymandering.

Senate elections are more of personality elections for the states. I don't see someone in Kansas or anywhere other than IL, CA, or NY sitting back and thinking, "you know, I'd vote for Billy the Republican, but there's too many republicans in Washington as it is."

We like to pretend the US populous has some sort of overall "mood" or "concern" but it's really just a shitshow of local elections with one national election.

The point is people in swing regions, are not going to be interested in someone who is too extreme on social issues that have a serious impact, and implementing legislation to enforce those issues. W. Bush did it in a very moderate, but practically mostly ineffectual manner, so he was not really critiqued for it, but if Trump is serious, it will really be a talking point and they won't like it, even those who would otherwise agree with him on many other issues. Same way hispanics en masse don't like trump over immigration, but he's not counting on courting them, all it takes is one issue to make a mistake in, and he won't win the necessary votes.

don't count on it.

2/3 of the country emphatically disapproves of 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions, let alone of the dissection of fully-formed baby cadavers.

These are the same who 2/3rds support gay marriage, which is even worse biblical sin? Hard to believe. If it comes down to serious abortion restrictions, it will not go over well.

They should read the bible, and find out where and when God destroyed a civilization for having abortion. Answer: never happened. Otherwise, China, etc. would have been destroyed long ago. This homosexual promotion on the other hand, to the extent of marriage, is literally unprecedented since the stories of Sodom and Gomorrah, not even morally equivalent, and Sodom and Gomorrah were wiped out by the hand of God himself.

Dude, you fucking retard, I'm far-right, and 100% in favor of eugenics, and killing filthy degenerates, and abolishing all welfare, and letting all the ghetto morons die in the street. Even the Vatican did not recognize life beginning at conception until the 19th century. You're the feminist faggot, anti-abortionism is a first-wave feminist issue, that's when the craze started. Go look at the history. I don't even respect women enough to believe that they should have true equal rights, let alone anything else.

Trump is supporting crazies like Cruz over this, cruz is unelectable precisely because moderates hate him over social issues. Even Jeb or Walker have much better chances next to cruz, because moderates don't see them as a threat to their social values in an effective manner.

The only way Trump can save himself is if he slightly tunes down the rhetoric latter on, like he did on immigration. Cruz is beyond reproach at this point, for tuning down his rhetoric, since his social positions are too well embellished.
