Pretty well. I'm very impressed by the teaching ability of my professors so I don't regret Chicago (because perhaps it is true that Chicago gives you a better serious legal education).
There is probably more deadweight at the bottom of the class here than at Chicago, but probably more strong students in absolute terms (the 75% LSAT here is 173, after all).

for me (HLS 1L) I know at this point Im not gonna be at the top, so no point in working my ass off and I dont care too much about prestige of firms or what not as long as I get my 125k
life is short, I shouldn't be too stressed over fucking grades after college

I agree with you that H and Y are the only schools worth transferring to.
H for the ability to drop the H bomb
Y for no grades and the possibilty of academia

Yes. I completely agreed with something you said about thinking Columbia was prestigious beforehand but not anymore.
Some of the class comments (especially by URM's though I hate to say it) are just horrible.

No, he was a fucking idiot trying to sound smart discussing Supreme Court cases he knew nothing about. The partners literally couldn't contain their chuckles. It was pathetic.
But you're right "fucking 2L with a job"=PRESTIGEUS.

And you wouldn't if you saw him.
Still though man "fucking 2L with a job." That rocks. Total cruise control, baby. Awesome. So sweet.
He hadn't accepted yet, either, and the firm probably retracted after hearing him speak.
Still, I wasn't going to take the risk.

I am going to concur with this. At any school in the T14, the student body has demonstrated significant ability to achieve academically. This is especially true of even higher ranked schools like Columbia.
While students now might not be articulate (or prepared for class), you can certainly bet that they will remedy the problem by the time exams hit.

I was exaggerating a bit...my point was that before the year started I imagined a completely different student body, one that no doubt would have been leaps and bounds beyond a lazy TTT stoner like me in terms of innate intellectual aptitude. From what I've seen that's simply not the case.
BTW, do you know if lower Stone would make one competitive for a H/Y transfer?

Stone is the top third of the class. That's around 115 students. Not that prestigious. I have a hard time believing H/Y is willing to accept that many (not that all of those 115 -- or any of them, for that matter -- are gonna want to transfer, but you get my point). I'd guess that you have to be closer to Kent (top 1-3%). I get the sense that top schools are more likely to take the top students from lower ranked schools than good students from other top schools. The latter just don't need the boost as much. Why waste the finite space on someone who's only gonna get a marginal benefit out of going to Harvard instead of Columbia, as opposed to the person who's transferring from Brooklyn Law School to Harvard, and is thus in a totally new ballgame?
But I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about.

"Some of the class comments (especially by URM's though I hate to say it) are just horrible"
Is this a fair statement? Let's recall a certain series of comments by a certain girl in Civ Pro. She was not an URM. There have been dumb comments from just about every demographic, so I do not know if I agree with this.

Yes, perhaps my comment is off the mark. I only said URM because I have this one person in mind who is in all my classes that is especially bad.
Also, I don't really criticize people who get cold-called on and give bad answers (God knows that more often than not, I have no idea what the prof is talking about). It's the people who volunteer and talk incessantly, yet make tagential points or fail to grasp basic concepts.

How competitive is that 3rd year in London program and why does everybody say that Lenfest Hall is a TTT? If I get into Columbia, I don't want a roommate and that seems like the only option.

I don't know anything about the 3rd year London program, so I'll just ignore that question instead of talking out of my ass.
People are down on Lenfest just because it is prohibitively expensive. Despite what the brochures say, I think the cost comes out to $1400-$1500 a month. This isn't bad for NYC, but really a poor value compared to some of the apartment shares you can get through University Approved Housing. It itsn't atypical to pay $850 a month, share a reasonably sized apartment a block from the law school, and have a *very large* bedroom.
