the UK doesn't even allow most of them to carry guns. in london, only about half are certified "firearms officers." the other half are disarmed sitting ducks, and yet they STILL do better at the game of life than their american counterparts.

Just because they are certified doesn't mean they are actually armed, it just means that if they are qualified to be assigned to duties where guns are carried.

As I understand it (mostly from watching a lot of The Bill) only police doing special duty like guarding a site or the police in the special cars that patrol the city carry guns. Everyone else is unarmed.

Even when UK police carry guns they very rarely need to use them:

"In England and Wales in the 12 months to March 2016, British police discharged their firearms on just seven occasions, the statistics, released on Thursday show.

This figure is actually a record, of sorts. In the same period ending in March 2013, firearms were used only three times. In the 2015 period they were used six times. Seven uses of weapons is the highest since at least 2009."

Feral blacks with access to firearms in the USA. Also, USA has shit sentencing practices and has a right to due process.

The US has lots of criminals with guns, for one. The job is inherently more difficult when you're policing a free people and not a bunch of disarmed persons.

not all cops are killed by gunfire in the US, though. a surprising amount die from intentional vehicular assaults (not just regular DUII; cases where the driver is intentionally gunning for them), along with stabbings and assaults.

it's not like the UK is free of cars or knives.

There are cultural differences too. The US not only is awash in guns but it has a culture that encourages resort to violence.

There are other countries where there are lots of guns (e.g. Switzerland) but shootings are rare because the culture is different.
