Loved the match where new age outlaws joined DX and absolutely decimated cactus jack and Terry funk . . . spike piledrivers onto chairs with funk handcuffed to the cage and getting strangled having to watch Jack get destroyed. Closing the show with DX atop the cage each posing and doing crotch chops on one of the corners.
There was a really good hardcore match with cactus Jack and I think HHH, ends with a piledriver on a table at the top of the entrance ramp.
Austin crashing the zamboni into the ring and diving over security at McMahon.
Austin vs Bret hart feud, where he basically murders Bret hart and then as they're gonna put him in the ambulance Austin is already inside. The whole feud was fantastic.
Pillman's got a gun.
Hell in a cell main event that goes off air with Austin and Kane brawling on top of the cell.
Early IC championship feud between Austin and the rock. I knew they both would be megastars.
I feel like a lot of Austin's earlier work is really underrated. I was hooked on the character from the time he was the ringmaster and threw a match to get rid of million dollar man. He had an intensity that nobody else could match. Love how on some shows he would do like 3 different runins because he just wanted to get at whoever he was feuding with so bad. He wasn't over at this point (pre Austin 316), but I was bigly behind him and he was my #1. Obviously, pulling for him to get over and move up the card, and then experiencing how it all actually played out was a peak experience.
Same thing with The Rock. I was a massive Rock mark from the time he was a mid-card heel and started subtly usurping Farooq for control of the nation. Watching him transition from "go away" heat to legit heat to split crowds to white hot face was pretty peak as well, because I was behind him from the start. |
