a) OP is not about the overall quality of any films, but the surprisingly high quality of her acting. Anaconda was a terrible movie but she was much better in it than the typical "tough chick" lead in most other cheesy action/horror/action-horror movies.
(Not saying she deserved Oscars or anything for any of her perfomances, just that considering she got famous for shaking her fat ass in the Fly Girls, she was surprisingly decent actually saying lines.)
b) Which are films in which she tried to break from "sassy Hispanic" typecasting? Is Out of Sight one of those?

holy shit; i didn't realize how successful she was AS a musician. she had MULTIPLE #1 hits. look at her top-40 list:
If You Had My Love (1999) - #1
Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix) (2001) - #1 (with Ja Rule and Caddillac Tah)
I'm Real (2001) - #1
All I Have (2002) - #1 (with LL Cool J)
Love Don't Cost a Thing (2000) - #3
Jenny from the Block (2002) - #3 (with Jadakiss and Styles)
On the Floor (2011) - #3 (with Pitbull)
Control Myself (2006) - #4 (with LL Cool J)
Waiting for Tonight (1999) - #8
I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix) (2002) - #10 (with Nas)
Get Right (2005) - #12
Dance Again (2012) - #17 (with Pitbull)
Play (2001) - #18
Booty (2014) - #18 (with Iggy Azalea and Pitbull)
Almost Like Praying (2017) - #20 (with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Artists for Puerto Rico)
What's Going On (2001) - #27 (with Artists Against AIDS Worldwide)
Do It Well (2007) - #31
I'm Glad (2003) - #32
T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) (2011) - #36 (with will.i.am and Mick Jagger)
...
that's 10 top-10 singles and FOUR #1 singles. that's kind of ridiculous for someone whose music was generally pretty bad.
