it's true. 2% of this board is better than anything on LSD. 90% of this board is crap.
then again 99% of LSD is crap. and the remaining 1% is, at its best, equal to this board.
upon reflection, it seems i am wasting the best years of my life posting to either of these boards. kill self?

That really was getting irritating. Didn't get your message in time, though.
Last post to the right, I promise.
Hope my half-assed late-night explination of my thesis is sufficient.
Oh, and I only went to a T30, so the good internships and whatnot were reserved for the spoiled rich kids.

I think that is the nicest thing I ever read on this site.
You have tones besides sarcasm? I am impressed. No wonder you all did so well on the lsat. :)
I might go somewhere and transfer. Or work for a nonprofit for a few years and retake. Or give lap dances to adcomms. Haven't really decided yet.

Those are all good options. I'm only nice becasue I used to be on LSD. This site is much better actually. I was on LSD for about 6 months and it was good for actual info--but this site is more fun and fast moving and it has an easier format--other than your pretty avatars.
Good luck. You're young. No rush.

ahhhh LSD, that explains it.
I don't expect to become a regular, I have a thesis to write after all (fortunately sucking up the lsat does not keep one out of top PhD programs). I saw the page linked from LSD and had to chime in.
I agree, though, the format is interesting and I have seen many funny things on the board. I just don't think I meet the percentile cut-off.
Thanks for the compliment and well-wishing. Not that young though.

Same thing goes with LSAT, school of attendance, etc. The only people posting these details are the ones on the high end.

I'm not at Vanderbilt but I'll likely be a happy 1L there next year. Oh you're already in a Ph.D. program or still in college? I wouldn't even bother with law school then. You can do a ton of things once you get out where as JDs are limited to document review.
I was born in virgina and rejected by UVA :(

I'm in a PhD program. I think I am going to stop at the MA. I have no money and the school has no funding.

I am the only unfunded student in the program. The took pity on me and let me in, I don't think it hurts that I am the most attractive person in the department.

Thesis (in a nutshell): The use of intertextuality as a means for validation of youth oriented media.
Most of my coursework has been in law and history (emphasis on the preservation of history and formation of memory)

"Thesis (in a nutshell): The use of intertextuality as a means for validation of youth oriented media."
Can you explain what this means?

Date: March 26th, 2006 4:19 AM Author: carmine water buffalo university
...and I'm the TTT one ;)
Intertextuality is referencing one form of media in another. This can be referring to a book in a movie, talking about a movie on a tv show, product placement, or even the appearance of an actor (or several actors) in the same type of program or programs produced by the same company/director/screenwriter.
In my thesis I (will) explain how specific youth-oriented programs use more established and reputable forms of media to establish themselves as valid on the continum of cultural history. As a basic example, referencing Shakespeare to establish intellectual credibility or 1980s teen flicks to appeal to the cultural preferences of the previous generation. This phenonmenon correlates to a generational need for validation (as compared to the Greatest Generation or the Vietnam Era) that is now fulfilled by outside forces and is no longer sought through the media.

None taken. It is the truth. I'm pretty happy with some of my acceptances. I'm currently weighing my options and looking into other things. I transferred as an ug though and would prefer to not do it again.
Not a psychopath, but don't really have my choice of mates (how many girls who sit on internet message boards do?). I do value attractiveness in a mate and I don't think that makes anyone superficial, just realistic. ;)
I've always wanted a career in law. Had some pitfalls with the lsat. I would love to do paralegal work or something related for a big firm for a few years, but I have found it impossible to get such jobs without connections and an extremely impressive resume. I worked shit jobs to pay my way through school, so I don't have much of either.
I do appreciate the advice on both counts.
I am mostly concerned about not having to live in a box right now and I'd prefer not going into porn.

"Not knocking anyone because they can score high, but if someone thinks they are "better" than others just because of their scores, I really have no use (and no respect)for them. I'd much rather share a classroom with people who have lived a little in the real world, and who will bring real experiences to the table.
LSAT 156
GPA 3.6 (4.0 degree)"
it almost seems as if he's saying it's "better" to bring his 156 to the "table". and real world experiences are immensely helpful when you're doing personal jurisdiction and future interests

I don't understand how people can't have both high scores and "real life" experiences. It's a false dichotomy. Explains the 156.
The most prestigious people I knew in my applicant cycle had both great stats from excellent schools AND a wealth of real world experience that was generally unique and that they had excelled at. And they still occasionally got dinged from Yale.

This one time a Wal-Mart I was talking to Tyronne the stock boy, and he was telling me about how he used to pimp his little sister out on Craigslist. He always used the Washington, D.C. board. Well, his sister got picked up ny the cops in Alexandria, VA. The prosecutor tried to nail Tyronne, but Tyronne was like "what the fuck, I was in D.C." And I agree. What the fuck, indeed. That's why Virginia doesn't have personal jurisdiction over Tyronne. He didn't purposefully avail himself of the benefits of Virginia.
It's a good thing I'm bringing my real world experiences to the table.

There's far more people on LSD willing to admit they have crap numbers, though.
I think I'm the only one here who dares actually say where I'm going in my moniker.

are you a flame or did you choose this? and if so, why?
i refuse to drop a complete load on cooley. the school has some decent alums and is proof that a degree is what you make of it. i think it attracts the hate because of the rankings it puts out. if you can't dance, hug the wall. if you start freakin out in the middle of the floor shoutin about your hotness, people are going to point fingers.

No one will actually think I'm at Cooley if I say I am. Which means that if I talk about it, everyone will think I'm flame. Or, I could be flame.
Also, full tuition for anyone over a 163. Even with my GPA. And since I already lived in the area and didn't feel like moving incredibly far, it made sense.
Edit: And yes, the rankings are freaking stupid.

Lots and lots. I'm not sure on the figure, but around 3,000 at the start of each year, when counting the satellite campuses. I think they tried to add another last year by folding in an unaccreditted school, but the ABA wouldn't let them do it and keep their accredidation due to the poor status of the new addition. So they have it, but it's an unaccredited satillite campus. Sucks to be those people.
The big thing about Cooley is the number of Part Timers- they make up the bulk of the school. Only about 500 of us are actually full time, and our attrition rates aren't that bad. The PT people, they drop like flies, especially in the weekend only program. Overall attrition rates are near 50% for both 1L and 2L, thanks to the administration dropping the bottom 20% of the class that couldn't hack it. I've already seen a ton of people either flunk out or just quit because they couldn't do it, which is both just as well and too bad. Just as well because they shouldn't be lawyers. Too bad because now their in debt for nothing.
Anyways, by the time you get to 3L, your classes are pretty small (and attrition shrinks way down)

Fair enough. The reason I defend it is because when I first started thinking about law school, I stumbled across that site and it made me a little uncomfortable. I'll be at a top 25 law school next year, and I felt like a complete moron. Now it's one of my favorite sites because I learned to take it with a grain of salt, and I find it absolutely hilarious. And if you want to learn about law school, those guys are really smart and give really inteligent, realistic advice (when they're not kidding). If you can handle the ego hit, you can really learn a lot from them.

Your point on the far left about bloggers is exactly what I was going for. My prof actually wants me to reference them in my thesis, which I am finding impossible to reconcile. Not in the mood for it at all.
And, yea, paran0id, they're actually giving me a degree for this, amazing isn't it? Unfortunately, all the theses on Fitzgerald were taken, so I decided to slack off this spring. My parents are ridiculously happy they aren't financing my education. Sorry I won't be at your school to keep down the curve.

You didn't really need to humble yourself in any way to illict such a response. I would like to think that intellectual capacity can be seperated from standardized testing, but I never saw a point in pressing it at all on this forum, so I roll with the assumption that I am a moron.

No beef with him, I appreciate anyone who takes random non-intellectual topics and makes them intellectual.
In my defense, I took a 3L class last semester and another this semester for credit, so I think that balances out my laziness in my own subject.

"That actually seems to make sense... You can already see tons of bloggers trying to validate themselves by getting book deals, writing articles in mainstream newspapers, getting mentioned/quoted in print/TV media, etc."
Validation is rarely a major motivation. There's just more money/exposure to be had from newspapers/TV/books. These media also express complex ideas more effectively.

...and I'm the TTT one ;)

Interesting. Have you read any cross-cultural comparisons on how often or how this is done? Cause Americans are famously focused on the present.

Primarily cultural markers like Columbine and 9/11, most recently the second Gulf War.
Most of my research is from England. This subject hasn't really picked up in the US (thus my profs' label "cutting edge"). I hd to limit it enough as it is, I couldn't imagine incorporating another culture.

We do have the best universities, with he exception of one or two, they just don't excel especially in this field because they are no willing to fund it- frequently abandoning for more traditional departments, such as English, that are incorporating more interdiscplinary elements.
