i am an accountant in dc living a fairly boring existence.

since the time i was a high schooler i knew i was an entrepreneur. i have had this burning feeling that i have to create something. i have to get out there and SELL a product or service to the public, to get out there in front of people and hustle like a motherfucker, to not take "no" for an answer, to be an aggressive motherfucker who is going to make shit happen.

i feel like until i do this, until i start something, i'm just going to be floating through life. with a kind of constant sense of unhappiness and question of...is this all life has to offer?

i'm lucky in that i'm still relatively young, but the main problem now is that i don't really have a well thought out business idea yet. i'm working on it, granted, but i'm still not there yet. but i really need to get things rolling here. start doing SOMETHING. start talking to people. start building a thesis statement for my business.

i feel like many entrepreneurs are like this - we don't start businesses because we want to. we start them because we have to.

I will tell you this: every single problem you have as a wagecuck gets solved by being an entrepreneur, but you replace it 1:1. it's not better or worse, just different, and you gotta pick which problems you'd rather deal with.

i feel like it seems to be a common thread among successful entrepreneurs with your background.

something like (1) above average quantitative processing speed + (2) Munger's mental models + (3) emotional stability + (4) above average risk appetite + (5) above average work ethic = successful entrepreneur

this seems like a good assessment.

I also have a problem with authority, can't hold down a normal job for longer than a year or two because of that, and care more about ongoing financial freedom and being empowered to tell people to fuck off than fraudlies "retirement."

that said, I'd suffer a regular wagecuck gig if I could spin it off into my own company a year or two down the road.

I am rapidly developing a problem with authority. Realizing in my late twenties that life is total flame, and it's getting harder and harder to kowtow to the conventional (and totally bankrupt) standards of success and morality that we inherited from the genx/boomer crowd. problem is I'm a $120k+ student debtmo. I'm blasting the loans as aggressively as possible but it's going to take a while. Don't think I can take on any entrepreneurial risk with that big an albatross around my neck.

I paid mine off with some of my buyout money. All I have is a mortgage and utilities/phone now which are covered by passive income.

when I'm at the point that my incidental expenses are also covered by passive income, I will kiss work goodbye and focus my entrepreneurial energy on something else that doesn't need to draw money

do a cash flow analysis for your life right now including generous allowances for your incidentals so you're overestimating. if you can sustain 12-18 months of that on savings alone, you can maek it. figure out your niche and business plan.

don't do it if you can't live that long though unless you're prepared to max out credit cards and risk being in a debt hole you can't climb out of

it's totally doable, pumbro. it's just not easy. and like I said earlier, it's not a panacea for what you hate about wagecucking. it replaces the problems 1:1 with new ones that are different but just as shitty. I actually think TCR is jumping back and forth between the two until you have enough savings and passive income to retire early.

You sound like a bit of a loser but people will work for you if you just have capital and vision. Why dick around in sales? Accountants have a decent enough skill set to do LBOs and balance sheet restructurings into a sale. Hire a small team for evaluations. All you really need is an investor and some deal flow. The only hard part is the investor.

and thanks for your suggestion but i'm actually looking to get into the software field somehow. more specifically, looking into leveraging AI technologies (machine learning) to solve a very narrow problem in the accounting space. what you proposed doesn't really hold an interest for me.

Oh ok. Well I described something that you can probably do and you described something you probably can't do. Who is right?

tell me more about this idea.

are you referring to like transaction advisory services? i thought those guys did like quality of earnings reports and made sure the #s were legit for due diligence purposes.

what you're describing sounds different

no. i want to be a salesman, but i don't JUST want to be a salesman. as a founder of a company you are not only your firm's chief salesperson, but you also own EQUITY which is what i'm chiefly after. salespeople have no equity, most of the time

im glad i posted this. i had no idea there were other people out there like me. it sucks.

my problem also has been that i get super excited about a business idea for like a month, and then i just lose interest. i'm hoping that i don't lose interest in this one, but i think this one is different.

i feel like that guy ray kroc in "The founder" with michael keaton. the guy went his whole life bouncing from one idea to another, one get rich quick scheme after the next, until he found mcdonald's. and when he found it, he just latched on like a motherfucker. he even said it in the film - you only need to be right once. that's basically my thought process

start a business, man

get out of that crypto bullshit. it's hogwash. there's no long term future with that shit.

blockchain, ok that might be a different story. but don't invest in that overhyped currency.

i feel like cryptocurrency bullshit is taken ahold of so many milennials

LOL. If you're going to start a business, you have to be more open-minded than this, unless your idea of "starting a business" is doing something super established where profits have been driven to ~0.

Utility value for crypto is very low at the moment. But has potential for tremendous long term value. Try to think of how things will look in 3-5 years, not right now.

interesting that you refer to entrepreneurs as "we" despite the fact that you've been a wagecuck your entire life, have never made any serious moves towards actually starting a business, and in this very thread reject a reasonable suggestion that is within reach of your current skills and experience in favor of a pie-in-the-sky speculative dream that is guaranteed to keep you slaving away in wagecuck land waiting for the time until you're "ready" to put it into action

i suspect this feeling will be with you at 41, 51, and, assuming you don't jump off a bridge before that, 61

an entrepreneur once told me that there's room in every market for another entry.

so you don't have to think of something completely novel. just something a little better than the next guy.
