Why does creed have such terrible reputation? I actually liked some of their early songs but have no idea what they did after that. I have bad taste in music though and don't keep up with new bands etc. or even know where to find them (e.g. I can look on rottentomatoes for film reviews of what's in theaters - but I wouldn't know where to look at music stuff)

they (like Nickleback) make the kind of music proles love and critics hate, so they never got a single positive writeup. Also Creed lead singer Scott Stapp was a huge asshole to everyone and, I think, actually had a nervous breakdown at one point.

How influential were Linkin Park? Will people listen to them in 20 years? Do they even come on the radio any more?

I think it's the Killers. Their stuff had critical and mass appeal, and an idiosyncratic sound that has aged well and that people will keep listening to. I didn't even particularly like them when they came out but they've grown on me.

They might have been the biggest band for like 4 years of the early 2000s but they were off the map by the time "First Impressions of Earth" dropped in 2006

They were all drafting off Jack White. Jack White/White Stripes/Raconteurs is the best answer to OP when considered from an influence or rock history perspective. Love the Strokes, but they were basically has-beens by 2008 and Jack White was still on top. Jack White could still drop a huge record today easily and no one would bat an eye.

But those linkin park sales numbers are absurd, and I like the Muse argument in terms of music post Napster being less measured by record sales and radio spins and more about touring. LJL at anyone saying Coldplay—the bitchmade soft rock of the Bush years that symbolized cuck and beta males, with a sound that boomers and Gen X sell outs could agree on.

I think Arcade Fire isn't like rock rock but was the indie darling and lines up nicely with the 2000s.

For more radio rock, Maroon 5 or Linkin Park (or Coldplay I guess but they seem more grounded in 90's).

For something in between, the White Stripes. I also like the Killers.

Maroon 5 was only a "rock" band for about half of their first album.

Linkin Park seems too niche, in that only loser teens and 20-somethings liked them, but based on their sales, I guess that young loser demographic in every country in the world bought their albums. Coldplay was probably more identifiable as a huge band that everyone of every age would be aware of, and even played the super bowl.

other than that id say white stripes or maybe radiohead, thoguh i agree w the poaster above who said they are more 1995-2005 than 2000-2010

Green Day - even though their sound is more connected to the 90s.

Foo Fighters - though arguably they were bigger in the 90s or the 2010s.

Green Day is an odd case in that they had a sort of double-peak with Dookie and American Idiot a decade apart. but nothing after AI was worth listening to twice or even once at all. they're sort of a punchline these days
