Carnegie gets remembered because of his university, libraries and museums: tangible things. Also he was an eccentric, kooky character with memorable quotes and stuff.
Rockefeller somehow became a synonym for "rich guy", and there was a whole multigenerational family of them, in business, politics, etc. "The Rockefellers".
I just don't think if Bill Gates will be as easily remembered. MSFT and the Gates Foundation probably won't exist in 200 years. I doubt his kids will do anything memorable. Maybe if he had three sons and pushed them all into being businessmen/politicians it would be different. I mean, we're talking about 200 years from now. |
