Just do completely diminish the impact of first round upsets. It's fine the way it is but the player with the bye should be required to withdraw by Tuesday morning for the two highest ranked players that lost in the last round of qualifying can play in the first round. No one cares when a qualifier or lucky loser gets a retirement after 3 games in the first round but now you have tards proposing that players who lost IN THE MAIN DRAW get a second chance in the tournament. LL winnign a r32 match has happened plenty (esp w the new penalties for showing up injured and playing) but cant name an example. remember in a masters, the cutoff is usually around #48. the LL will prob be ~#50-60. not a stretch that he beats an unseeded opponent in the r32. |
