I'll be attending H and I have lots of respect for Boalt. I would certainly rank it in the top 10.
Many on this board who trash Boalt are simply angry at being dinged. Others are probably just trolling.
In any case, I would agree that one would be foolish to base decisions on some message board; particularly one where "nigger" is on the subject line of so many posts.

I'm planning on going into IP, and there's no question that Boalt beats Michigan and Virginia in that area.
But I've decided to go to H. I know. I should be ashamed of myself. But yes, I'm a prestige whore.

WRONG.
For the July 2005 California Bar, Boalt had a higher passage rate than Harvard, Columbia, Chicago, Virginia, Penn, NYU, Duke, Georgetown, Cornell, Northwestern, and of course, Hastings.
See for yourself:
2005 California Bar Passage Rates (first timers)
Yale 95%
Stanford 88%
Berkeley 87%
Michigan 87%
Duke 86%
Columbia 85%
Harvard 84%
NYU 84%
Virginia 84%
Penn 83%
Chicago 83%
Cornell 77%
Georgetown 77%
Northwestern 65%
------------------------------
Hastings 84%

yup, harvard's rate was lower than hastings'. boalt was higher. that was my point. search 'ca bar' on this site, see what comes up.
of course, boalt's # was lower than ucla. but that should be assumed, it happens almost every year.

Harvard's California bar passage rate was EQUAL to that of Hasings. I admit that it's not something to brag about.
But Hastings is actually an under-rated school, and HLS isn't the only prestigious school Hastings beat.
Hastings beat or tied the bar passage rates of 8 schools in the t14. Bravo for Hastings!

try actually dividing the two variables involved and see if it is the same #.
hint: it isn't. i did this a half year ago.
as for being underrated - is it possible to underrate a school without a library?

The sad thing is that I really feel like I would have thrived at Boalt and that my interest in IP would have been nurtured. The IP professors I met were down to earth even though they were regarded as being among the best in the business.
H really doesn't have a very good IP program, but I gave in to laymen's prestige.

Actually, Boalt is generally regarded as having the best IP program in the country (and not just by USNEWS).
Also, I take issue with H being a distant second to Yale. Look at the number of HLS grads we've had on SCOTUS. Also, H is viewed by the international community as the best law school IN THE WORLD.
HLS has more of a WOW factor in the US and internationally than YLS (with the exception of the types of people who post on XOXOTH and LSD). There's no question about that.

Again, look at SCOTUS and look at all the HLS grads in positions of power.
Also, in the real world, prestige matters.
People hire lawyers based on prestige.

Hint: Executives in Asia and Europe don't base their decisions on US News Rankings. Internationally, there's a prestige gap between H and Y. And yes, H comes out on top.

Back to laymen's prestige. Are you SURE you go to Harvard? People often get it mixed up with Howard. Is this your school: http://www.law.howard.edu/ ?

boalt looks ugly and seems underfunded compared to the rest of the T14.
i like its focus on ip law, though.
