Were you at that game 2 years ago? Michigan, by a fluke, managed 100 yards of total offense at half-time because they were given a full yard rather than the half-yard effort that it took to get a td.
Iowa, sadly, dominated that game. It was like 34-9 when all was said and done. UM was luckily hanging around until MC dropped that punt early in the 3d. It didn't look close at all. UM didn't show up that sad, sad day.
I stayed for the entire game in honor of the effort against UW. Still, UM got blowed the fuck out by Iowa.
This year should be better for UM. Of course, I expect great thing of Gutz (esp with that receiving core), but without a consensus #1 rb.. and with the best back looking like Jerome Jackson or Pierre Rembert (no Underwood), I'm not sure what to expect of UMs rushing attack against a stalwart D like Iowa's, which is always good against the Rush.
Of course, Iowa has lost that safety that hit rbs like Tyson hits his women...
intriguing..

I was at that game, and though it didn't look that good from the start, the entire crowd and team seemed to slump all at once when Curry dropped that punt. It was amazing how that one play demoralized the entire stadium. Not saying that Michigan would have won, they didn't look great that day anyway, but I've never seen a Michigan team mail it in the way that did after that one play. I guess I shouldn't have said it was close, but it wasn't a blowout in the way that a lot of the ppl who didn't watch the game seem to think it was.
The game this year will be a good one. Michigan won't have one back, they'll probably use three (including a true freshman), but they should be able to move the ball through the air (depending on the qb and the protection he gets). Not that Iowa can't win that game, I just don't think they will.

I'll buy that. UM was outplayed in the first half, but was only 1 pt down at half-time. It just took the air out of the sails because we gave up an easy td... and it took us so much to get anything going that day.
When you say true freshman playing... do you mean Hart or Martin? Once he arrives, I imagine that Grady will get decent pt (he's described as a combo Clarret-without the problems and Duckett), but Grady won't be there until the 2005 season.
Jackson was really impressive last year for a frosh. I expect that by season's end he'll be getting most of the carries if it's done by committee. What do you think will become of Richards in teh Gutz/Richards/Henne triangle?
All I know is that with Breaston, Tabb, Avant, and Edwards I could win the Heisman as UMs qb.

I was thinking Martin. With Hart being so small, and from coming from such a small HS, I think it will take him a little while to adjust.
As for the quarterbacks, it should be really interesting. At the spring game I thought Richard looked a little better than Gutierrez, but Gutierrez will definitely be the starter, and it will be his job to lose (which given the UM receiving corps, could be tough to do). Without seeing Henne, it's tough to say, but he looked good in the few plays I saw of the high school all star game.

A lot of people said the same thing regarding Jamie Morris (too small), but he went on to start for 4 years. I just think that between Jackson, Rembert, Underwood, and Bracken that there won't be a need to have Hart or Martin use up a year of eligibility (unless one is that impressive or there is a concern about experience once grady enters the picture).
I agree a bit with the qb assesment. Richards has an arm and a third. Gutz just seems to have that same kind of winner's attitude that Brady had. Even though Henson was talented, everybody preferred Brady because of his presence. Damn Carr... splitting time... fucking Henson...
Did you hear about this guy from LA Perr-whateverthefuckhisname is who has named UM among his leaders?

Yeah, I doubt they'll really need Martin to play, I've just heard several times that he's expected to be in the offense this year. Bracken is supposed to be as healthy as ever, which would be a nice change.
They have two LA players that have put UM among their favorites, that Perrilou(sp?) who is supposed to be one of the best qb's in the nation, and a running back that named Michigan in his top three.
True about Morris, I just think the competition that Hart played against, along with his size should mean he'll redshirt.

It has nothing to do with Dorell being a black coach. It has everything to do with Dorell being inexperienced, underqualified, and generally in over his head. Recruiting has gone completely south under Dorell. Recruits are lining up to sit the bench for four years at USC when they could be starting for UCLA. If they don't can him after the season we will be looking at a very dark period in Bruin football.
Dorell = Lavin.

Dorrell > Lavin
Lavin had a much easier job. Dorrell has to deal with SC being back, which Toledo didn't have to deal with either. I think Dorrell, if given time, will be fine. He just isn't a great coach yet. They probably should have hired the guy that went to Oregon State, Mike Riley, but I'm not sold on him either.

I agree Lavin had the easier job but it took him about 6-7 years to completely destroy the program. It has only taken Dorell one year to do the same.
Did you see how bad UCLA looked on the field last year? I wanted to fuckin puke everytime the offense took the field. The guy can't coach, period. On top of that, he assembled one of the worst groups of assistants in the country. He is the Lavin of college football.

See the above prediction for FSU. I think the same can basically be said for UM. Opening day is so huge for both teams. Winner is going to make a serious run for the national championship. The loser could find themselves in a QB controversey and struggle.
I am psyched that our game will be on ABC in the Monday Night Football slot. That is bad-ass.

yes, i think he hates losing too much, so i think he'll be gone after this season, two tops. i think they resigned him for four years so he can tell recruits that he'll be around for four years.
it's a shame he didn't leave after the outback bowl year.

5-6? I think that may be a little harsh... I'd say 7-4, with losses against Wash State, OK State, A&M, Nebraska.
I think we'll pull off upsets against Texas and K State at home...
