The idea that extended families and nuclear families are somehow oppositional is bizarre and illogical. Strong extended families REQUIRE strong nuclear families. My dad was very close to his sisters (nuclear family) so I'm very close to my cousins. My grandfather was *very* close to his brothers (nuclear family) so I'm close with many of my second and third cousins. None of these extended relationships would exist *but for* the close, loving relationships within the nuclear families.
Libs have concocted this bizarre fantasy where conservative support of nuclear families somehow means they *hate* extended families, which is such completely counterintuitive nonsense that only an overeducated lib could possibly spin himself into believing it. But in reality libs are desperately trying to create a justification for the many parents who have abandoned their children in our failed and declining society. This means too many kids are being raised by people who are not their parents. Libs are just throwing shit at the wall trying to prove that this is A GOOD THING, ACTUALLY, by retconning it as "extended family" and placing it in distinction to those evil conservatives with their evil nuclear families.
True extended family is great & wonderful. But children should be, on a day to day basis, raised by their actual, irl, married parents. That's clearly best for children, and the evidence in support of this is so overwhelming libs have chosen to simply ignore it. Instead they spout out gibberish pablum like I'm responding to here. |

As a result, it is common for extended family to be far away. We are a disconnected people with weak ties to our neighbors, community, and extended family.
Under every category there is an explicit or implicit reference to the HYPER-INDIVIDUALISM that characterizes American culture. Even our family units are atomized. It is time to bury American-style capitalism and to take a more communitarian approach to life. There is no other way to deal with growing income instability, drug abuse, suicide, and the general discontent that pervades our society. Almost everything on that poster needs to altered. These issues will worsen as the modern economy leaves so many unable, no matter how hard they work, to fulfill the American Dream (TM).

Then racism got more codified and became more structural. When the Great Society welfare programs started they got black families hooked in the dole in the 1960s and 1970s. Then crack in the 1980s.
Blacks have very legit grievances about how "fair" society treated them until at least the 90s. The worst part of it is that our response drove out the business minded aspirational part of the black community and it all became focused on being an athlete or entertainer. |

Take the Smithsonian story. The museum became the latest institution to attempt to combat racism by pledging itself to “antiracism,” a quack sub-theology that in a self-clowning trick straight out of Catch-22 seeks to raise awareness about ignorant race stereotypes by reviving and amplifying them.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture created a graphic on “Aspects and Assumptions of White Culture” that declared the following white values: “the scientific method,” “rational, linear thinking,” “the nuclear family,” “children should have their own rooms,” “hard work is the key to success,” “be polite,” “written tradition,” and “self-reliance.” White food is “steak and potatoes; bland is best,” and in white justice, “intent counts.”
The astute observer will notice this graphic could equally have been written by white supremacist Richard Spencer or History of White People parodist Martin Mull. It seems impossible that no one at one of the country’s leading educational institutions noticed this messaging is ludicrously racist, not just to white people but to everyone (what is any person of color supposed to think when he or she reads that self-reliance, politeness, and “linear thinking” are white values?).
The exhibit was inspired by white corporate consultants with Education degrees like Judith Katz and White Fragility author Robin DiAngelo, who themselves echo the work of more consultants with Ed degrees like Glenn Singleton of Courageous Conversations. Per the New York Times, Courageous Conversations even teaches that “written communication over other forms” and “mechanical time” (i.e. clock time) are tools by which “whiteness undercuts Black kids.”
The notion that such bugbears as as time, data, and the written word are racist has caught fire across the United States in the last few weeks, igniting calls for an end to virtually every form of quantitative evaluation in hiring and admissions, including many that were designed specifically to combat racism. Few tears will be shed for the SAT and ACT exams, even though they were once infamous for causing Harvard to be overpopulated with high-scoring “undesirables” like Jews and Catholics, forcing the school to add letters of reference and personal essays to help restore the WASP balance. |
