Prior to joining Jones Day, Kat served in the Tax Division at the Department of Justice (DOJ), where she prosecuted white collar offenses and led grand jury investigations of multimillion dollar tax shelters and fraudulent schemes. FWIW, Layn Phillips was appointed a district court judge at age 35 and did fine. So did Tamika Montgomery-Reeves, who was appointed to the chancery bench when she was 34 (though there are no criminal cases/jury trials there).
