The Caribbean and Latin America were. In particular, slaves were heavily utilized for sugar cane production. For augmenting smaller subsistence farms in the North, selling indentured servants from Europe was far more practical (slavery makes sense at scale, but if you just need an extra 1-2 hands to grow crops on a small farm then indentured servants make far more sense).
Once cotton production ramped up in the South they went to a large plantation model that was built on slave labor. That came later. |

All of this stuff is clearly a reaction to all of the pieces the past month or so about conservatives taking down CRT. The right does nothing to actually address the problem their constituents have with it, which is that they are seeing footage of riots on tv 24/7, constant bits about how the country is less and less white, a story every other night about somebody's grandmother being punched to death by a "teenager" and "CRT" effectively gives this sort of anarcho-tyranny a blessing. All of the punditry surrounding the CRT stuff on the right has only served to obfuscate what the actual problem is.
I saw this video a few weeks ago of some middle aged dude at a school board meeting bitching about CRT and the entire thing was so depressing because he looked like such a retard aping all of the same buzzwords and talking points his favorite pundits and thinkpiece writers use. He honestly comes off like a scared and confused child that lacks the vocabulary necessary to articulate his feelings. He doesn't like CRT because he's white, his kids are white, it's anti-white, and, justifiably, he doesn't want himself or his kids to live in a country where people are taught to hate him for his race. The funny thing is that's way more human, would resonate with way more people, and gets to the point much more quickly, but nobody is allowed to say it outright because any channel on the right producing that king of thought is going to be swiftly cut off from its sphere of influence (I wonder why). Instead we have to pretend it's the 60s again and act like a concretely racial/identiarian issue is an ideological one.
Sure grr libs fuck them but in many ways the best thing to happen would be if the Republican party imploded and if everyone stopped watching Fox News. That way normal people could organically say what they think, take up political power, and make the sorts of changes necessary to get the results they want out of government. |
