The 223d day of massive Russian military aggression and war against Ukraine has ended. Losing on the battlefields and unable to admit the actual situation, Putin is trying to raise the political and military stakes to the highest possible level. But this strategy is not working. Ukraine successfully continues its counteroffensive in the South and the East, despite Russia’s claiming its rights in four Ukrainian regions.

The situation on the battle fronts is getting better for the Ukrainian Armed forces, which are performing offensive operations in the South (Kherson region) and the East (Kharkiv and Luhansk regions).

Each day the Ukrainian army is liberating several villages or small towns, moving on a distance of 10-20 kilometres. The main goal is to squeeze Russian aggressors from Kherson and all the territory of the right bank of the Dnipro river. Ukraine is getting closer to this goal, and soon we will observe the siege of Kherson if the Russians do not run away.

In the East, the Ukrainian Army started to liberate the Luhansk region neighbouring Kharkiv. Again we observe that the Russians cannot stabilise the front, abandoning equipment, tanks and other valuable military equipment in the fields. They even leave their wounded soldiers and officers, who are taken as war prisoners.

It seems that Russian mobilisation is not helping Putin much thus far. Interestingly, the Ukrainian MoD has created a “hotline” for Russian soldiers who want to surrender. Over the last two weeks, more than two thousand phone calls were made.

We understand that there will be many more mobilised Russian men, but most have no military experience. Besides, the quality of Russian weapons is getting worse as time passes. Now they sent to the battlefields old soviet T-62 tanks, which are 60 years old. Russia’s only advantage so far is quantity, aviation and rockets. Of course, the weapons of mass destruction hopefully will not be used as this would push the world into deeper chaos.
