Elway played during the hard days and did it with some of the worst receivers and o lines imaginable. He led the team in rushing yards one year for fucks sake. Real football people watch the way the guys play - and elways arm strength, improve skills when the pocket broke down, and ability to consistently hit the 3rd and long pass, separates him from the merely "good" qbs. The fact that he got to 3 superbowls in 4 years is testament to his being a top 3 all time quarterback.
I spent 12 yrs of my life playing quarterback and a couple years coaching the position at a small college. here is my top 5:
Brady Elway Manning Marino Staubach *talent wise brady is not a top 5 qb but accomplishments put him a solid 1.

LOL no he did not. He started his career the exact same year as Dan Marino and several years after the major rule changes that opened up the passing game. Other than one year where he had the most passing yards, he never led the league in any statistic of note, whether it be volume or efficiency.
And no he never led his team in rushing yards ever, I don't know where you came up with that claim.
