Unless you're *really* prestigious and/or very successful (in your current form, not when you were a senior associate at jones day), you're just not going to get good people.
I came out of fancy firms that had very few TTT grads (all like #1 in their class), but I had litigated against TTTs who I thought were perfectly serviceable lawyers. I didn't realize that even those guys were probably top-5% of their class in talent, even if not grades. Early on with my firm we went through a string of folks who were so fucking bad I can't imagine using them productively for anything. We gave one girl more severance than she had total time at the company b/c we all felt so guilty that we had erred so unreasonably by hiring her. |
