Russia has a satellite system called EKS/Tundra for early warning. That’s the primary detection means. Voronezh is supposed to be a secondary backup.

This story is nonsense. Voronezh is late 90s technology at best. The electronics are basically Penguin 1 or Pentium 2 level. Nothing in these radars requires advanced chips of any kind or would be endangered by sanctions, Garbage ICs from robot vacuum cleaners would keep these running.

The first radar, in Lekhtusi near St Petersburg, became operational in 2009. There is a plan to replace older radars with the Voronezh by 2020

It was designed in 1999 and uses chips from 1997. You can source these components from literal garbage dumps in Africa.

This is true of basically every weapons system East or West. The electronics are laughably simple and old.

and that's not even mentioning corruption and lack of maintenance in russia

You're a fucking moron. We do years of stress testing, just test the fuck out of every chip so that anything in current use is ancient. HIMARS run on chips from the early 80s. F-22 chips are early 90s or older. F-35 chips are made in a 95nm fab. LOL@ you jizzing over shitty HIMARS for a year and then accusing Russia of using old chips.

Not when it comes shit like this. This isn't an area where you get yuge benefits from higher frequencies or thermal efficiency. These chips are usually dedicated to doing just one thing and they were already in widespread use in consumer automobiles in the 1980s. The active suspension on the original Infiniti Q45 had more advanced computers than you need for 99% of this shit, it's not like a radar needs to run windows.

Don't know this guy and I'm sure Russia is corrupt but the odds are much higher that this is the US MIC starting a drumbeat for a Russia attack than the Russians really having broken radar.
