I would normally post this on LSD but it is down. Have at it and please suggest corrections/refinements and post any questions I have missed.

In case you're wondering, I got about 3/4 of these by jotting down what I could remember when I got to my car. The rest I got from a just-starting postmortem thread on LSD before it crashed.

I have 11 questions from the first section.

I have 22 questions from the second section. It is in the next message.

LOGICAL REASONING SECTION #1

Questions which I remember what # they were…

#1. Main Point: City is proposing a dam but it costs a lot and is a bad idea

Answer: Damming the river is a bad idea

#4. Flaw: 75% of dermatologists recommend this cream;

Answer: Doesn’t give #s; could be a small sample size (this was the least bad Answer; I wasn’t 100% sure when i chose it)

#5. PR #1: X -> Y or Z; Y is not possible, hence, if X then some type Z

Answer: I think it was D; if there is a path it is stone or gravel; it can’t be gravel so the path is stone. something like that.

#17. Inference (Principle) : Very long principle question; if you have 2 processes that are approx. same cost, choose less environmentally damaging one; then there was another long thing… Answer choice mostly dealt with first part of principle Answer: Pretty sure it was C

#21. Inference: garden/living room in winter/summer

Answer: no clue; this one killed me

#22. PR #2 (flaw): X -> Z; ~X - ~Z

Answer: was the one with girl who was music lover but didn’t take music classes

23. ?

24. Strengthen: There is no evidence of a supernova based on the observations of instruments we use

Answer: I think this one was "the instruments have detected further off supernovas in the past"

25. Weaken: Company makes more money when employees can throw parties

Answer: I think this one was A; that the companies that throw parties make more money to begin with

Questions from section 1 which I don’t remember what # they were

[Don’t remember question type]: Studying hyperactivity/sugar consumption in children via glucose/fructose/sucrose/sugar substitutes

Answer: ?

Assumption (2N) : All world problems caused by supply/demand problems. Hence, we need to decrease demand

Answer: Assumed that demand, at present, exceeds supply

Argument Part: Role played in argument by claim that 1 million years ago, there was a link between Africa and China

Answer: Don’t remember

[Don’t remember question type]: Studying hyperactivity/sugar consumption in children via glucose/fructose/sucrose/sugar substitutes

It was a justify question, and it said ...sugar/glucose/control group all were shown to not have increased hyperactivity while doing certain tests.

Answer: During the test the children were doing activities that caused them to be more active/excited.

Argument Part: Role played in argument by claim that 1 million years ago, there was a link between Africa and China

The answer was something along the lines of "this evidence makes the claim that the trade route may have been established before 200 BC plausible" only in an actual, coherent sentence.

LOGICAL REASONING SECTION #2

#1. Weaken: Two treatments X and Y are both available; we should use X because it has advantage A, B, C...

Answer: A; X has caused problems in animal experiments (The least worst Answer)

#2. Assumption (2N) : Commentators say a certain type of political power is good because it leads to people's rights being respected. But it's really bad because of X, Y and Z.

Answer: The political power in question, when exercised by certain people, ends up with people having their rights not respected or something

#3. Paradox: Prairie birds flourish wherever humans live despite human habitation normally killing off animal life

Answer: E, humans create trees on prairie, which help guard the prairie birds from wind gusts or something

#25. Inference: In ancient Greece, eyewitnesses were not cross-examined and jurors were pulled out of the general population. we can figure out ancient Greek moral codes by inspecting litigant speech

Answer: C -- litigants in ancient Greece knew they could curry favor with jurors in deciding their cases by displaying similar morals as them

Paradox (I think) : Why is it okay to eat the algae from the lake now even though the population of the algae has increased?

Answer: Had something to do with the algae dying off lowered the amount of the toxin released into the food being eaten

Paradox: Two studies of erosion near bridge were commissioned. They had differing results but both were right

Answer: One studied top-soil erosion; the other studied a different type of erosion

Paradox: Bears that eat a certain type of flower, but when they do so they pull up the bulb, killing the flower. Yet without the bears the flowers wouldn't survive.

Answer: If the flowers are undisturbed, then they soak up all the nutrients and no flowers survive.

Inference: A certain scientific theory (Gaussian maps?) was developed in the 19th C but not used till the 20th; same thing with another theorem developed by Einstein. What can we generalize from this?

Answer: A (I think) -- That certain scientific theories are not put into practical use until later on when their uses are figured out.

Argument part: One of the argument part questions was a really philosophical question, where we were asked what role a certain philosophical thing played; something like "certain people don't ever show emotion towards others" or some crap

Answer: i think it was C, it involved it being a claim that was not justified. right?

Argument part: What role does "the band does not have any risk" play in the argument?

Answer: Don’t remember; i think it was an intermediate conclusion; maybe Answer choice E, which was "it is a premise for the conclusion and is supported by a premise itself" or something

Assumption (2S) : Government can be super great or super bad. but the best bet is for the government to just be mediocre.

Answer: it is better for the government to be mediocre than to be anything else (or something like that)

Assumption (2S) : If Jane and Jack are both in this guy's office and the fingerprints an the footprints yada yada yada, I’m sure you remember this one

Answer: C, Nobody else was in the office

Assumption (2N) : Bacteria have flagellum that is made up of parts; Bacteria’s ancestors that didn’t have fully functioning flagellum must have not been able to survivie

Answer: ??

Flaw: bird typology 1 is no good because it does not account for a certain species difference (that different species cannot interbreed) as in bird typology 2

Answer: had it narrowed down to 2... I think i said it presumes the correctness of the other one?

Flaw: this bird was found that is 20M years before any dinosaur bones which are supposed to be what birds are descended from. hence no birds are descended from dinosaurs

Answer: another one I had a tough time after narrowing it down to 2... one was "ignores possibility both could be descended from another creature" (E), I think the other was that it makes too strong a generalization (A). I think I picked A.

Flaw: Teachers are paid less than athletes. So, society values athletics more than education.

Answer : Something along the lines of it overlooks the fact that education may get more total money spent towards it.

Flaw: Annoying letter from annoying guy about how traffic accidents in low speed areas will surely increase

Answer: ??

Strengthen: Nuclear power plants are less cost-effective than conventional ones

Answer: 'nuclear power plants had to be rebuilt sooner than conventional power plants."

Inference: If a manuscript is unreadable or prevents understanding, a manuscript editor can do X. If something else is the case, the editor can do Y or Z.

Answer: ??

Inference: Opera singer/young singer/voice training/hurting trachea

Answer: ??

#3. Paradox: Prairie birds flourish wherever humans live despite human habitation normally killing off animal life

Answer: E, humans create trees on prairie, which help guard the prairie birds from wind gusts or something

I don't think this is right at all...the answer choice said that the trees cause less wind, which protect the bird eggs in the CITIES...it made no mention of the praries...it was a shell answer, I'm 99% sure of it. I can't remember the right answer though.

I'm confused because I chose that answer too. I thought "Prairie Birds" was thier name, not where they lived. Therefore, prairie birds could live in cities and were protected by the dense tree growth.

i dont know what futilely is talking about... i'm fairly confident that one had to do with settlers planting trees. it was early in the section and one of those fairly easy, almost gimme questions. the other four answer choices were completely off base and this one was a clear winner, IMO. i could be wrong though.

Well, fuck. I guess I'll concede to board wisdom. Fuck. I'll be pissed if I missed this one...I spent too much time on it. I thought it was later (in the late teens) in the section? and I didn't think it was easy, but if I misred the stem then I could see how I could have made it more difficult than it really was.

Assumption (2N) : Bacteria have flagellum that is made up of parts; Bacteria’s ancestors that didn’t have fully functioning flagellum must have not been able to survivie

Answer:

I remember TCR had something to do with the fact that the missing assumption was that the flagella didn't serve any other function in aiding the bactium to survive.

Answer: ??

The answer to this was something like if a manuscript is full of old punctuation and hapmers a persons ability to read, the editor can edit it so long as he notes he did so in the preface. Maybe answer B?

This one had some tricky wording.

In the set-up it claims an editor can correct ANY punctuation and correct old words if it hampers the reader's ability to read. I did NOT choose B because it implies he can correct the punctuation because it is old, but in the set-up it says he can correct any punctuation.

I do not remember which choice I picked but it wasn't B.

what about all parts were vital to each other? my thinking was that if something before had only some parts of the flagellum, it wouldnt give an advantage becasese (my answer the parts are vital to each other). my thinking was if they were vital, they couldnt help it swim which wouldnt give it an advantage.

The response you are thinking of didn't say exactly that; that the parts could only be used for swimming meant they could be used for nothing else. Even if the parts were vital to swimming, they could be useful for some other evolutionary purpose.

"For the garden one... i put something like, "in the cold season...coordinate.." something like that.

I also put the assumption is that ancient bacteria needed those particles to swim/that they couldnt do it without it... (i dont remember word for word)

For last RC, put two observations, didnt see it as two assertions... both higher numbered lines spoke of problems/shortcomings, so I thought it would be more of an observation than an assertion (means to declare right?)

I don't remember if I put vulnerable or in principle for last rc.

For the sugar/ADD put the answer that had sugar & substitute in it

There were also two questions with "Advertisers:" in it.. anyone remember any q's from it?

Another question about being trendy and hats and suits and the principle i picked was if you spend a lot of money on it it should be that you will wear it for a long time...

And a question on anti-environmentalists being renegades... I picked it was flawed because they didnt prove themselves as being badasses...

OOO what about this one-- Jansen being murdered in his office. What logically draws the conclusion that the woman did it and not Henry? I think i put that only the both of them were in the room that day because of a premise stated earlier... but i was debating btwn that and that the fingerprints found were not jansen's...

Don't know if that helps... its so hard to remember it all..."

Bullshit. I took Sept....LG was harder this time (not by much, but by enough to not warrant a -7 or even -8 scale), RC was 28 questions AGAIN (I don't think a 28 question RC will EVER be a -8 scale), and LR was more abstract than in recent years.

All that makes for a -10/-11 scale. No fucking way it's anywhere near -8.

-7 means you can miss 7 and get a 170

-8 means you can miss 8 and get a 170

-9 means you can miss 9 and get a 170

basically, the -px] is a shortcut for saying "90/101 = 170" or whatever.

since there are 100 Qs on this test, some are assuming that you may need to miss less than 10 (i.e. -8, -9) to get a 170.

also, the question about the capital cities and city size preference, was the answer the one that said they fail to take into account that people who prefer small cities were attracted to the fact that they were capitals?"

"

for the citiy survey question I chose that they failed to take into account that while the large capital may have be chosen the most compared to the other cities, it does not show that people in general likes larger cities because you could have a poll where the capital is the only large city, and lets say there are 4 other cities which are small. 10 people could choose capital, and 5 each for the smaller ones. That's a total of 20 (5 x 4) people choosing smaller cities as opposed to only 10 choosing the larger city.

I don't know if that makes sense for anyone, but at least that's what i've convinced myself is the reasoning.."

I agree with the second person's answer on for the small/large cities question. I remember that question being fairly stratighforward to me and that is the answer I had. Anyone else?

Can you get more details on the synthetics one? I vaguely remember it but need more detail. Ah, wait... it was the one that argued that since synthetic toxins are identical to naturally occuring toxins and naturally occuring toxins are much more common than snythetic toxins, the synthetic toxins aren't dangerous. And the answer was that it doesn't take into account how much/often people are exposed to synthetic toxins as opposed to natural toxins. Right?

I am 100% positive about the first 2, but the last one about the flagellum I admit I am unsure about.

"The city question was like you guys said "didn't take into acount that more people voted for rural"

Also, the Non-Synthetic stuff is less harmful than real synthetic stuff.

Also, I think the flagellum or whatever's ancestor could not have swam."

Whatevs. I guess we'll just see.

But earlier posts also agreed with my first two, I just reworded the problems more the way they were during the test.

What is the right answer:

The city question: I put that people may have preferred to live in capital cities. The stimulus indicated that the large city, the provincial capital, was selected most often. Does "most often" indicate a majority or a plurality?

The synthetic question: People are exposed more frequently to synthetics.

Having parties at the workplace: I was down to A and C. A showed there was a reversal issue--companies with above average profits for able to allow workplace fun, while C said XYZ had above average profits without having workplace fun. A shows that cause and effect have been reversed, while C shows the supposed effect (above average profits) without the cause.

I chose A for this one.

The city question CR is definitely that more ppl could have chosen suburbs as a whole -- i.e., there are 100 ppl, 30 choose the big city, but 10 choose each of 7 different burbs; therefore, living in the city isn't the most popular choice in the province. That the city was a capital one is totally irrelevant.

The synthetic question, TITCR.

Parties at work, TCR said that companies that have parties are already profitable...

I thought that 'most often' meant plurality in that question, but don't remember the wording. The capital cities/preference answer didn't seem right to me because it was something like "People who chose SMALL cities did so not because of the size of the city but because of feelings about capital cities" and the conclusion was based on the people who chose the capital (large) city as the best place to live (and also the assumption that a majority of people chose it, rather than just 'more than any other single city'). Not 100% though - any thoughts?

For the last time, it wasn't the capital answer.

It was a ratio question in disguise, the writers wanted to see if you would catch that.
