Not full ride but good money. Not that many people got jobs through OCI. I am the first to admit that I got lucky. I did bust my ass, however, and I think I am very well prepared to compete against people who went to higher ranked schools.

I do not want to say where the office is located but it is V50.

I went to an HYP for U/G... helps me in the legal market for sure.

However.... I would stop wayyyy short of saying I went to a non t-14 bc of my own choice. I freely admit I went to a "ttt" because my grades were horrendous in UG and there were additional issues with my app (causing me to have to write an addendum and discuss various legal/criminal/disciplinary record matters)

If you rocked OCI.... awesome. But going to a ttt over a t-14 is very risky, Ivy undergrad or not. I know dozens of Ivy grads (specifically HYP grads) who go to/went to law school at "TTT" schools. 80% are doing fantastic; 20% are not.

I think the board wisdom is that top students at TTTs still do relatively well. So unless you're a median person at a TTT, I really don't see how this disputes conventional wisdom.

Well if the conventional wisdom is that top 25% at TTTs do well then this post is meaningless. I do not think, however, this is what this board espouses.

Most people think it is T14 or die, even that means living in Minnesota or Texas for 3 years (and possibly the rest of your life)

most of us could take the LSAT with no sleep and hemorrhaging from the Ebola virus and still score above the 75th percentile LSAT score for TTTs.

If you think that T14 = had a lucky day on the lsat!, then this proves your heavy, heavy chip.

EDIT: If you're working in NYC, then your V50 = bottom trash heap of the T14 class. If you're not working in NYC, then this doesn't apply of course.

Not NYC - I could never live in that city.

I do think that many people at the bottom of the T14 had a lucky day when they took the LSAT or they studied their asses off for it. Either way, good for them. My point is that just because you go to a T14 does not make you automatically superior. I have worked with many T14s in different capacities and the vast majority are neither more intelligent nor do they produce a superior work product. I have, however, interacted with a number of HLS students who, in general, are very intelligent and produce great work.

"I have worked with many T14s in different capacities and the vast majority are neither more intelligent nor do they produce a superior work product."

That's because coming from a TTT, most of your contact with T14 students is the very, very bottom of the class that is forced to work with T4 students.

Also, if you didn't study for the LSAT, then you're just a retard. That's about the worst excuse in the book for not getting a good score: "I didn't study very much." You're have horrible, horrible judgment if you didn't study your ass off.

But Congrats on your V50 job. You've done very well for your law school, and now you can consider yourself equal to the bottom trash of the T14 =P

I didn't realize that editors of the T14 law reviews were in the bottom of the class. I didn't ask them their class ranks, but I just assume if you make it on to the law review (and not a secondary journal) at a T14 you are in the top of the class.

Even at Cravath you will come into contact with a number of TTT (not within your office) but possibly across the table. It is not like we live in a Jim Crow segregated society where there are separate drinking fountains for TTT and T14ers.

I agree with you. The only problem with your thinking is that at the very top schools, the entire student body has been working their whole life to be in the X%. At a TTT, virtually no one has cared about being in that top portion of the class. Therefore, interacting with normal people on a daily basis has been very good for me and I while I have become much more introverted since I entered law school, I think I will be better off than those at the T14

A lot of people have priorities that are called "having a life." This includes having fun. Fun includes exercise, spending time with friends, drinking, doing drugs, and skipping classes because you have better things to do with your time on occasion. Just because you didn't spend your entire life gunning for the best law school to get into doesn't mean that you ended up at law school because law school was something to do.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. Most people at top law schools went to Ivy UGs where the median GPAs are like 3.5. It does not take much effort at those places to get a 3.6-3.7. Then they studied for a few weeks for the LSAT and got 170+ because they are smart. The vast majority of people at my school are here because it was the path of least resistance to getting a sweet job. Very few have been working hard to be lawyers their whole life, most are just smart and haven't had to work hard.

If you go to school (regardless of whether it is T14 or TTT) and don't pay a lot of money and you get a good job. Then congrats.

My point is that TTTs are not destined for failure. It is almost entirely within your control.

So what is wrong in your life then? Are you unsure about your relationship with your fiancé? Do you feel inadequate to your classmates? Are you trying to make up for all of those years of being made fun of by people at TTTs? I am sure high school was socially brutal and college probably even worse for you. While I admit that some of it was luck. The vast majority was hard work, and I am not talking about the work that I put in to do well at law school. I am talking about networking, contacting people, reapplying for jobs 3L that I was denied at the year before, mass-mailing, and finding out what firms have hired from my law school. This summer I met with a ton of alumns from my undergrad and law school who were biglaw grads, and I personally connected with some of them. As a consequence, they helped get my name to the top of the pile. It is not all that much luck, much more hard work. Most TTTs just don't put much effort into the job search and expect a job to fall out of the sky like they do for most T14ers.

Good job but you'll spend much of your life trying to prove that youre just as good as a T14 grad. Sounds pretty stressful.

The T14ers will spend thier lives trying to prove that their as good as other T14ers and the TTTs that the work with. If you want to make partner or work your way up at DOJ or other Gov't agency then you will constantly be trying to prove that your better then everyone else. Sounds pretty stressful - it is - ever seen how many attorneys are bald by their mid-40s?
