I questioned what exactly his grades were, trying to figure out if his grades were amazingly beyond stellar summa, sears quality, or if they were just very good top 10%. The part you may have seen as racist is my point about him being President of the Law Review. I assume that normally to get that spot, you would need tip top grades, close to top 1%. But since they use affirmative action on the law review, Barak didn't necessarily have those grades (but maybe he did, I just didn't know). I don't think that's racist, I think it's just the nature of how AA works. |

But this is over the line.
Until AA is abolished, it will be a perfectly legitimate inquiry to ask whether or not someone would have the same resume "but/for" their race. While a lot of racists may ask this question, asking it does not make one racist. This is the sad reality of AA, but there's nothing Obama can really do about it besides prove himself. He was magna, and that speaks for itself.
Cravath3L is an inflammatory guy, which is part of what makes him a good poster. But he's not a WhitePride or an AffirmativeCounterAction type guy, and it degrades the word "racist" to apply it to everyone who questions AA. Was the guy who did the AA study that found that a high percentage of URMs end up at the bottom of the class a racist? Are there certain questions that shouldn't be answered because the answer would be too inflammatory? I'd like to think not. |

My worry is that even if the guy hasn't done ANYTHING wrong (and I don't recall seeing him post any racist stuff), merely alerting his employers to his presence on the board is probably enough. A complaint of racist behavior, whether substantiated or completely fallacious, is extremely damning. Further, a quick look at some of the racist content on the board, plus standard corporate bullshit ("Well, you're using the Cravath name on a board with racists posts; this reflects poorly on the firm" yaddah yaddah) = summary dismissal.
It would be one thing if his accusers could dredge up something even remotely resembling a racist post, but so far all we have is vague allegations and "I can't find the thread"s. |

I don't understand Columbia JD. Apparently he has enough of a grudge against Cravath3L to strongly assert that he was a racist poster. But once some others indicated that they had a problem with Cravath3L, he suddenly backtracks and calls them all douches.
I agree that this reflects really poorly on the school. When I started posting here, I was impressed that all the posters that identified themselves with CLS were all very civil, both to each other and to the rest of board in general. Even now when a CLS poster says something I disagree with, I would rather let it go and maybe raise it with them in person. Feels like some of that community is gone now. |
