I think my first salaried job paid a base salary of $32,000 before incentives. I would have to get dressed every morning, put on these awful Cole Haan pennies loafer, drive to this office in my old jalopy, and do this terrible work for this company moving shit all over the world. $70k is more than 2 years at that place. Just vanished in a month. Crazy.

I don't have a ton of cash and I have to manage cash flow somewhat actively. In other words, I can't afford to just let $100,000 sit in my checking account and not worry about drawing it down.

The other reason I check is because I monitor my asset allocation and when it gets more than 4% out of my parameters, I have to think about re-balancing. Right now, my ex-US allocation has soared to about 1.07% above it's benchmark, so I need to invest some more into US.

you should reallocate only once a year unless there's a severe deviation for an extended period.

why do you need cash? my bank account balance is typically under $5. i buy everything on credit, pay off the full balance with each paycheck, and put the rest of my pay in VTI.

I'm nowhere near that efficient. I need cash because my family consumes an enormous amount and there are lumpy expenses. Examples:

Next week is spring break - Daughter has a gymnastics camp which is an extra $300.

April - Taxes are due, another $4200 gone.

May - Insurance premiums are due. That's $2,200 for autos and $6,500 for homeowners. Planned trip to California.

June - Probably some vacation related expense or day care or something; electricity bills will go from $200/mo. to about $650-700/mo starting June

July - Planned trip to NY.

Aug - Back to school expense, an extra $3,000 easily.

Yeah, I spend almost everything I make. We actually save and invest very little. I think we've saved/invested $13,730 of incoming new money + whatever our dividends have been so far this year. So like $16,230 for the quarter (assuming we get about $10,000/yr in dividends, which is roughly correct).

I am a complete poor down on the balls of my ass.

I typically don't go to restaurants, but yesterday I did try one after hearing about the Starbuck's case. I couldn't do anything else. I was trying to work, but I couldn't focus.

So I went to this place called Portillo's. They're supposedly a hotdog shop. It was some of the grossest shit I've ever had. Totally soured my experience on restaurants. The only restuarant I think I like is a chain of family restaurants out in SoCal called Islands.

Buffalo nickels are considered attractive coins & have always been a popular series to collect in the US.

As a general rule, larger coins are more expensive, so collecting quarters or half dollars in the same "slab grade" would be significantly moar expensive.
