Master System, Genesis, Atari, SNES, N64 - people simply never "blew" on the cartridge connectors to make it "work." Only on the NES. And even on the NES it was often pantomime flame.

But why? Why was the NES the only Console where we were supposed to do this?

There's a lot of scholarship on this. The front loading mechanism of the NES didn't work as well as top loading consoles (all the others).

Nintendo wanted to make their console look less like a video game system and more like a home "entertainment system" like a VCR so as not to be associated with older crappier systems. But it had the effect of making the connection looser and shittier.

in hindsight, the top loading NES system was one of the stupidest decisions in Gaming history. Amazing that the system itself was such a piece of shit, but the controllers were literally indestructible and many still work perfectly 40 years later. Had they just done a "stick it in" type cartridge system without a loading "deck" the systems would have lasted forever IMO.

Microsoft always on "Kinnect" is also up there.

Snes was much better constructed. Genesis ppl either broke/lost their games or gave them to a friend who never returned it.

I had a 32X but had to return because the games would freeze after a few minutes. “Clerk” said it was known issue with old style Genesi. Thoughts?
